Orlando Racelis Puzon passed away on Friday November 25, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center from complications of cancer. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IA.
Orlando was born December 30, 1948, in Manila, Philippines, to Ernesto Sr. and Gertrudes Puzon. He met the love of his life, Erlinda (Dapito), in the Philippines in 1970. He then immigrated to the United States on April 28, 1973. He worked in Chicago for the Standard Oil Company before relocating to Des Moines in 1974. He was united in marriage to his love, Erlinda on July 26, 1975. Together, they raised two children, Liza and Ernesto III, in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He worked for Standard Oil/Citigroup for 37 years before retiring in 2012.
He loved to entertain and cook for everybody, especially his famous BBQ on a stick and eggrolls. Those were everyone's favorites. He was a jokester and told countless dad jokes at every opportunity. He enjoyed listening to his oldie's music on the headphones. His hobbies included playing cards, mahjong, bingo, and going to Prairie Meadows for live music. He loved going shopping with his granddaughters, Jocelyn and Sylestial, and watching his grandson Deuce in all of his performances at school. He cherished his grandkids, they were his life.
Orlando was an active member of the Filipino American Association of Iowa where he served as the Sergeant-at-Arms. He was also an active member of the Filipino American Society. He volunteered cooking for various festivals in Des Moines on behalf of The Filipino Store.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older sisters, Cyril Cabildo and Madeleine Puzon.
Orlando is survived by his wife of 47 years, Erlinda, daughter, Liza Hurley (Chad), of Pleasant Hill, son Ernesto III of Des Moines and his grandchildren Jocelyn Bailey, Sylestial Rose, and Deuce Cruzer. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Ernesto II (Eldina), Egbert (Belinda), and Rory (Delia), as well as a host of many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families.
