Orval H. Riggleman, age 101, formerly of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Spring Arbor of Winchester, VA, under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice. He was born February 24, 1923 in the Stump cabin in Bass, WV to Harvey H. and Viola (Heare) Riggleman.
Orval is survived by his wife of 78 years, Juanita (See) Riggleman, son, Terry Riggleman (Joyce) of Augusta, WV, daughter, Janette Heitz (Mike) of Lexington, KY, four grandchildren: Jennifer Hill, Adam Riggleman, Cory Heitz (Josie), Jordan Hurd (Charles) and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph.
Orval was part of the Greatest Generation and served in Europe during World War II where he was wounded three separate times by the enemy, receiving the Purple Heart in recognition. He later served in the Korean conflict.
He worked almost 40 years as a long distance trucker and worked locally for M.A. Bean Co. and Hester Industries. He was also involved with the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Co. and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing and watching sports in his spare time. He was a lifetime resident of Moorefield before moving to Slanesville in 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV with Pastor Elmer Glick officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield, WV. Military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601 or a charity of choice.
All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.
