Orvil Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hardman Family Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.
Orvil "Junior" Arnold Smith, Jr., 69, of Orlando, WV, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born in Weston, WV on February 17, 1957, son of the late Orvil A. Smith, Sr. and Willa P. Titchenell Smith. Junior was united in marriage on June 6, 1975 to Karen Suzanne (Posey) Smith, who preceded him in death on January 3, 2022.

Cherishing their memories of Junior are his son, Jeremy Smith of Orlando, WV and daughter, Karri Riddle and husband, Tom of Orlando, WV grandchildren, Bailey Smith, Makayla, Jozie, Noah, and Bryar Riddle, Alexus, Lyssa, and Aaron Potter, and Michael Pumphrey, Jr., great granddaughter, Sylvia Riddle, brother, William Smith of Kansas, several nieces and nephews, and April Sims who he thought of as his own daughter.

In addition to his parents and wife, Karen, Junior was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Duffield.

Junior proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years before returning home to build a life centered on hard work, family, and the land he loved. He dedicated 33 years to Lewis County Schools as a bus driver, safely transporting generations of local students, and later spent six years driving truck for Hardman Trucking. When he wasn't on the road, Junior could most often be found on the farm, either on his tractor or in the garage alongside his son, Jeremy, working on one project or another-most often their beloved old Ford trucks. The farm and tinkering with trucks were his greatest passions, but nothing meant more to him than time spent with his family. When he wasn't working the land or turning a wrench, Junior cherished being with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy.

A private burial will be held at the family's convenience in Pleasant Valley Cemetery on their family farm in Orlando, WV. Online condolences and life stories in memory of Junior may be expressed at hardmanfamilyfuneralhome.com.
