Oscar E. Damiano

Oscar Damiano, of Matawan, New Jersey, was called by the Lord on Wednesday, March 25,

2026, while surrounded by his family. He was ninety-five.

Born on June 9th, 1930, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was the youngest of three siblings and

a proud Argentine. He married his beloved wife, Maria Esther Damiano née Cappizzano, in

1958. Their daughter, Viviana, was born shortly after. The trio emigrated to the United States in

the 70's to join Maria Esther's loving family in the Little Italy neighborhood of the Bronx, NY.

Blessed with a sharp and quantitative mind, Oscar had an enduring career as a statistician for

North Central Bronx Hospital up until his retirement. Afterwards, his journey with his family

brought him to Matawan, New Jersey.

A devoted catholic, he made many friends within the church community both in New York and

New Jersey. He was a member of Keyport's Our Lady of Fatima parish, where he served as a

lector for many years at Jesus the Lord church and was always surrounded by loving friends

which he perceived as an extension of his family. Oscar's family was the most important thing in

his life; his happiest moments were witnessing and celebrating their milestones. Oscar

experienced genuine joy through the triumphs of others, especially those of his grandsons. He

was the proudest of grandpas from day one.

He was also an avid gardener, fond of flowers with vibrant blooms, particularly roses, which

continue to stand in the family garden as tribute to his tender dedication. He was a lover of

sports, and a lifelong fan of both La Albiceleste and his boyhood soccer team, Club Atlético

River Plate.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maria Esther, whom he missed dearly, his parents,

Prospero and Eugenia, two older brothers, Guillermo and Juan, and his cherished in-laws

Mario, Carmen and Jacinta. He is survived by his loving daughter, Viviana (Damiano) Bastone

and her husband Pascual; two grandsons, Sebastian Bastone and Leonardo Bastone;

granddaughter-in-law Alyse; niece Laura Arena and her partner Rich Tenorio; nephew Dario

Arena and his wife Jennifer.
