Oscar Hanson Obituary
As a lifelong maker and fixer of all things boats and houses, he spent many years working with his brother Hans and his father Don on boats and houses, working in the Caribbean for many years.
Writing a conventional obituary for an unconventional guy is a bit of a challenge for his brother and me. Those of you who knew him know what we're talking about. Lol There are many stories that I know you all could share; we look forward to hearing ALL those stories and toasting O with a shot of Mount Gay! at his celebration of life at Beach Harbor in spring of 2023 (we are grateful to Jon and Patty Hanson for offering their hospitality; details to follow).
He is survived by his brother Hans Hanson, cousin Dawn Lindsley-Goodban and uncle Chuck Penny and aunt Sue and John Retzlaff.
Oscar was preceded in death by his mother Ginger Belke, paternal grandfather Donald J. Hanson, paternal grandmother Frances Hanson, adoptive mother Sharon Swan, aunt Marilyn Penny and his father Donald W. Hanson.

Oscar, with his twinkling blue eyes and genuine laughter, stole my heart while I was on the island, giving me his in return. We used to have long talks about all manner of subjects, especially Physics, while playing pool at Casablanca or spending time at Taffy's Tavern with the owners, Colin and Sue.
Unconventional is putting it mildly..."Racso", as Doris called him, was one of a kind; oh the stories I could tell, but then again he loved his privacy, so perhaps I will share just one or two remembrances if I get the chance to attend the memorial at Beach Harbour next Spring.
My memory is long and I can see them back then at The Boatyard, all laughing and drinking together as Oscar set up yet another flaming coffee sambuca at the bar; he surely lived life on his own terms.
This news was so unexpected, and difficult to learn especially since his dad Don recently sailed away forever in January 2021. My heart goes out to his brother Hans, the last of "The Three Musketeers" (how I thought of them) and the rest of the family.
