Oscar Reeder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dickerson Funeral Home - Vanceburg from Dec. 24 to Dec. 25, 2025.
Oscar Kenneth Reeder, Jr., lovingly known as Kenny or "OK", passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on December 22, 2025 surrounded by love while in the care of his son, Andy, and daughter-in-law, Heather, in Albertville, Alabama. Though distance separated him from his roots in his final days, Kenny's heart never left his beloved hometown of Vanceburg, Kentucky.
Born on December 21, 1945, Kenny was the first son of Oscar Kenneth and Maude Hess Holder Reeder. His birthday was more than a date on the calendar-it was something he hoped would always be remembered and celebrated as a meaningful family milestone, a reminder of the bond that tied generations together.
As a young man, Kenny attended Morehead State University and honorably served his country in the United States Army, including deployment to Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Throughout his life, he was known for his friendly spirit and deep connection to the community. Whether through the grocery stores he operated, his years selling cars or his faithful involvement at Vanceburg Christian Church, Black Oak Christian Church and Lebanon Christian Church, he formed many lasting friendships. He especially cherished church gatherings where he enjoyed helping coordinate special activities and sharing fellowship with others.
Kenny was a man of deep faith who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all his heart. His faith guided his life, gave him peace in difficult moments and shaped the way he treated others-with kindness, humility and grace. He trusted in God's promises and lived with a quiet confidence that his life was held in greater hands.
Those who knew Kenny will remember his gentle spirit, his steady presence and the way he made people feel known and valued simply by being himself. He carried a strong sense of loyalty to his family, his hometown and serving the Lord. One of his favorite sayings reflected how he lived each day: "Have a good day today, but look for a better day tomorrow. If you don't look for a better day, you just might miss out." This was more than a saying to Kenny-it was a way of life, a reminder to always hold onto hope and to keep moving forward with faith. He maintained his kind demeanor, sense of humor and positive attitude until the very end.
Kenny's memory will live on in every story told, every place remembered and every heart that had the honor of knowing him. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior and that his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved him. He loved an adventure and this is his best one, yet!
Above all else, Kenny cherished his family. His love was constant, unwavering and freely given. Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Oscar Kenneth Reeder III of Lexington, KY and Andy (Heather) Reeder of Albertville, AL; one sister, Eva Jane Clothier of Coral Springs, FL; two brothers, Tom (Sheila) Reeder of South Shore, KY and Robert (Gail) Reeder of Fly Branch/Vanceburg, KY; several nieces and nephews who he always held close to his heart and a wide circle of family and friends who were blessed to share in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Kenneth Reeder and Maude Hess Holder Reeder and his wife of 48 years, Emily Anne Hourigan Reeder.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m.,Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Vanceburg Christian Church with Daniel McClurg and Buddy White officiating. Interment will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak Cemetery in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
Friends may visit after 1 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2025 until the service hour at Vanceburg Christian Church.
