Oscar Eugene Steadman, 73, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir.

Oscar was born in Hendersonville, NC on June 1, 1951, to Virginia “Becky” Corn Steadman and the late Robert Lee Steadman. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict era. Oscar was a jailer with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, with whom he retired after many years of dedicated service. For many years, he was a fire fighter with the Valley Hill Volunteer Fire Department and a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Oscar took pride in keeping a well-manicured yard and was always known to help others. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh.

In addition to his father, Oscar was preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Steadman; and a sister, Bobbie Jo Baucom.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Becky Steadman; a sister, Wilma Stensland (Jack); a brother, Perry Steadman (Pat); a granddaughter, Mikayla Steadman; a special “niece” caretaker, Carrie Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
