Otis Harold McDaniel, a man of faith, love, and friendliness, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 5, 1938, in
Grand Ridge, Florida, Otis was a beacon of light in the lives of many. His life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and dedication, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Otis was the beloved husband of Shirley Ann McLane McDaniel for 66 blessed years. Their love story began in the 6th grade, and it was a love that would stand the test of time, a testament to the enduring power of love. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Benjamin Michael McDaniel, Randy Lamar McDaniel (Sheila), and Christie Ann McDaniel Maphis (Jamie). Otis was also a cherished brother-in-law to Kenneth McLane and Clara McLane Goodwin.
Otis was a proud grandfather to JC Folsom (Kendall), Josh McDaniel (Monica), and Alex Horton (Kyle), and a doting great-grandfather to Colton Folsom, Wesley McDaniel, Mackenzie Folson, and Maddy Davis. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss his warm smile and kind heart. Otis was predeceased by his parents, John William McDaniel and Andel Stephens McDaniel, his brother Sam McDaniel, and his sister Rebecca McDaniel Coulliette.
A 1956 graduate of Sneads High School, Otis was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Sneads. He served his church in many capacities over the years, always willing to lend a hand where needed. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all his endeavors. As the Bible says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
In 1958, Otis began his career at Florida State Hospital, where he worked diligently until his retirement 34 years later. His dedication to his work was a reflection of his commitment to providing for his family. After retirement, Otis planted the McDaniel Family Vineyard, a testament to his love for the land and his family.
Otis was a man who loved deeply. His love for his family was evident in the way he spoke of them, the way he cared for them, and the way he dedicated his life to them. He was a fine Christian man, whose faith was unwavering and whose love was unconditional. His friendly demeanor and warm smile will be missed by all who knew him.
In the words of the great theologian, C.S. Lewis, "The door on which we have been knocking all our lives will open at last." Otis Harold McDaniel has walked through that door, into the loving arms of our Lord. His life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and friendship. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Mr. Otis' Life will be held in the First Baptist Church of Sneads on Friday, September 15, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM Central Time with Rev. Robert Johns and Rev. Steve Walgamott officiating with McAlpin Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Dykes Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
