Owen N. N. Dickerson Jr., the only son of the late Ruth and Owen N. Dickerson Sr. entered this life on November 2, 1956, in Cumberland, Virginia. Owen was affectionately known as "Junnie" or "Junnie Bug" by his family and childhood acquaintances.
Owen accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Cumberland, Virginia.
He attended the Cumberland County Public School System.
Owen was employed by the Cumberland County Dog Farm before following his big sisters to Paterson, New Jersey where he was first employed by Paterson Lamp Shade Company for 14 years. He was later employed by the City of Paterson, Department of Public Works for 23 years before retiring when his health began to fail.
Owen was just like his mother; he was loved by everyone and he never met a stranger. You could always expect him to be joking and clowning around. One of his favorite pastimes was watching television, especially BET and western shows. He also watched Bishop Dale C. Bronner of Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral Ministry daily. Another pastime was buying every gadget made for TV that he saw in the stores, although he rarely used any of them.
As the youngest of his siblings and the only boy, his sisters spoiled him unconditionally. There was not a day he didn't hear from at least one of them and many days all of them. He enjoyed delicious food, and he believed his sisters Lily and Wynola were his personal chefs. They gave new meaning to meals on wheels.
Owen left a lasting impression on all that knew and loved him and he truly will be missed. After a long illness, with family by his side, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, Owen transitioned peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Jane Elizabeth Dickerson and nephew Frederick Spears.
He leaves to cherish wonderful memories, four sisters; Lily Ann Dickerson and Wynola Spears of Paterson, New Jersey, Jacqueline Fassett and Doris Johns (Robert) of Baltimore, Maryland; two nieces Yolanda Johnson of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Tobie Johns of Baltimore, Maryland; great-nephews; Myles-Anthony Johnson of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Aaron Dukes and Quincy Barnett of Baltimore, Maryland; one uncle Hubert Dickerson of Baltimore, Maryland; neighbors who became very good friends, Reymundo Jarquin and his wife Grimilda. He also leaves behind a host of cousins and friends.
Rest in peace, our beloved.
