Owen Godfrey Edwards passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, on Thursday, November 20, 2025. He was 80 years old, or, as he would affectionately say, four-score.

Born in Georgetown, Guyana, and raised in Alberttown on Albert Street, Owen attended Queens College, where he was a proud member of the Syndicate. It was there he formed lifelong friendships and earned the nickname "Little Kedda." He later completed his degree in civil engineering at the University of Guyana.

Owen began his career at the Transport & Harbours Department before becoming the Managing Director of Guybridge Civil Engineering Company Ltd. (GCECL), which later became General Construction Company, Ltd. (GCCL). In this leadership role, he oversaw operations and maintenance of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, contributing to one of the country's most vital pieces of infrastructure at the time. After retiring from GCCL, he continued to lend his expertise as a project manager on several major projects across Guyana. He was an active member and officer of the Guyana Association of Professional Engineers (GAPE), contributing to the advancement of engineering standards and professional development in Guyana.

Beyond his professional life, Owen deeply believed in serving his community. He was an active member of the Ruimveldt Lions Club, participating in service initiatives that uplifted families and strengthened neighborhoods. He was also a Past Master of Lodge Victory and Lodge Irenaeus, and served with distinction as a member and treasurer of several Allied Masonic Lodges.

Owen was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was known for his steady kindness, his warm, affectionate teasing, and a generosity of spirit that made everyone feel welcome and cared for. He was "the reliable one," the person everyone could count on, no matter the circumstance.

Owen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Desiree (née Hughes); his daughters, Monetta, Aretha, and Zoisa; his sister, Olney; his brothers, Godfrey and Terrence; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and extended family members, including his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his father, Cecil; his mother, Edith (née Smith); and his brother, Colin.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends in Georgetown, Guyana, in April 2026.
