Pamela May Stanley McCaslin, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia. Born in Slatersville, Rhode Island on July 6, 1942, to Leonard Arthur Stanley and Anita Allaire Stanley, Pam's family moved to Camden, South Carolina when she was very young. She attended Agnes Scott College for two years and completed her BA in Education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1964, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. During her college years, she married her beloved husband, Dr. Alston Jones (Jay) McCaslin V. She furthered her education by earning a Master of Education in 1965. In 1966, Pam and Jay welcomed twins, Jay and Jenny.
The family settled in Savannah in 1970. Pam began teaching special education classes at The Savannah Country Day School (SCDS) in 1971 and later became the SLD Director of the LD Department, now known as the Livingston Hall Waters Learning Support Center. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Harrison (deceased), Macy, Alston, and Mary Page.
Pam was deeply involved with Christ Church Episcopal, playing a crucial role in integrating music during Sunday communion and Thursday night services. She taught confirmation classes, nurturing a generation of young church members. As an assistant organist, she supported organist Irene Feddern, provided music for diocesan events, and honed her organ and choral skills.
In 1998, Pam was called to be the organist and choirmaster at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Isle of Hope, where she expanded the choir and encouraged their participation in providing food for Wednesday suppers. On her retirement after 14 years, the church acknowledged her dedication and commitment to parish life. She was also a faithful member of the organist community, twice serving as Dean of the Savannah Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and was also a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians.
Pam's pride and joy was the purchase and restoration of the 1807 Thomas F. Williams house, built on President Street. Her dedication to this endeavor transformed the house into a stunning showpiece. Pam's home became a cherished venue for hosting a variety of social gatherings, including bridal showers, dinner parties, and family celebrations. Its elegance and historical significance led to its frequent inclusion in The Historic Savannah Foundation's Tour of Homes and Gardens, where Pam proudly shared the history and beauty of her home with visitors from near and far.
She shared her musical talents with the ensemble The World Famous Crabettes, performing at various Savannah events. Pam will be remembered for her music, culinary skills, antique collections (The Mulberry Tree), buoyant personality, and deep faithfulness.
Pam is survived by her son, Alston Jones McCaslin VI (Lisa); her daughter, Jennifer Dobbs McCaslin Lobel (Bryan); three grandchildren, Macy Jordan Lobel, Alston Jones McCaslin VII, and Mary Page McCaslin; her brother, Derek Hunt Stanley; her sister-in-law, Suzanne Campbell McCaslin; and several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.
A service will be held on Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 28 Bull Street, Savannah. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to the Harrison Lobel Memorial Fund at The Savannah Country Day School, 824 Stillwood Dr, Savannah, GA 31419, or a charity of your choice.

It is with great sorrow to learn of Pam´s passing. Being under her musical direction in the St Thomas Episcopal Church choir for many years was an immense blessing. It was in a choir rehersal whereshe and I and others arranged the surprise proposal to my beloved Linda. She was a mainstay in the Crabettes where Linda and I also sang.

Not only has the Saint Thomas choir a place were as a community who labored to master and hone each piece of musical worship but wher welaughed and cried together over lifes´s shared struggles, losses and celebrations. She made that all happen with her magical blend of devotion, discipline and humor.

May she rest in sublime peace and reunion of spirit with those before her and may those in grief be comforted by our Lord God, Savior and Great Comforter. Amen
