Richard Meyer, III died on September 25, 2025. Rick, the only child of Richard Charles Henry Meyer, Jr. and Augusta Martin Carter Meyer, was born at Telfair Hospital in Savannah, Georgia on September 13, 1946. He attended St. Michael's Episcopal School, Savannah Country Day School, and Asheville School. He then attended the University of Georgia, where he met his first wife, Frances Dudley Meyer of Greenville, South Carolina, whom he married on March 16, 1968. At Georgia, Rick completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, as well as a master's degree in business administration. In 1979, Rick and Frances co-founded Frances Meyer, Inc., a manufacturing company they owned and operated for nineteen years before selling the business and retiring in 1998 to focus on Frances's cancer treatment. After Frances's death in 2004, Rick met his second wife, Karon Nunnally Cullen of Richmond, Virginia and New York, New York. Rick was a force of nature known for his sharp wit, intellect, infectious laugh, and his deep love of Savannah. Rick's keen and varied interests included Southern art, American history, dove, duck and quail shooting, international travel, and spending time with family and friends, who spanned multiple generations and continents. Rick was active in many Savannah organizations. He served on the following boards: Historic Savannah Foundation, The Telfair Museums, Bethesda Academy for Boys, Cotillion Club of Savannah, The Century Club of Savannah, The University of Georgia Press Advisory Council, The Georgia Historical Society, and The Oglethorpe Club, for which he served as president from 1996-1997. He was a member of The Society of the Cincinnati, The Knickerbocker Club, The Mill Reef Club, The Chatham Club, The Madeira Club, The Alexandria Assembly, The Green Boundary Club, The General Society of Colonial Wars, The Forest City Gun Club, The Heyward Foundation, and The Georgia Polled Hereford Association. Rick is survived by Karon, his wife of nineteen years; his daughter and son-in-law Augusta Carter Meyer Wilcox and McClelland Wallace Wilcox; his son and daughter-in-law Charles Heyward Meyer and Miranda Daphne Siegel; and his grandsons Benjamin Palmer Wilcox and Heyward Wallace Wilcox. A graveside service will be held in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Church or The Georgia Historical Society.
