Pantelis Kanavas Obituary

Chelmsford

Pantelis "Peter" Kanavas, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Peter was the beloved husband of Tasoula (Litsiou) Kanavas with whom he was married for 44 years. He was the Manoli to her Arxonti.

He was born in Lefkopigi, Kozani Greece on April 30, 1950, the son of the late Konstantinos and Paraskevi (Dragogias) Kanavas.

Peter immigrated to the USA in 1966 and began working at Demoulas / Market Basket where he proudly rose through the ranks during his 42-year tenure. He was a dedicated, hardworking father and husband who cherished his return trips to his Motherland of Greece whenever he got the chance. While he loved the beach, he loved the view of Mt. Olympus from his veranda more.

While at home in Chelmsford, his passion was the outdoors; he could be found mowing the lawn, burning leaves, pruning bushes, cutting down trees, or instructing one of his daughters or their husbands how to do any of these things. He never hesitated to throw a lamb on a spit and call it a cookout. In the case of a rainy day, his next favorite thing was enjoying Tasoula's pita, with the familiar hum of Jim Kramer, or Antenna Satellite always a staple in the background. Ba and his stock tips will be sorely missed.

In addition to his loving wife, Peter is survived by his children, Voula and Terry Pope of Chicago, IL, Vaia and John Tehrani of Andover, Eleni and Matthew Phillips of Westminster, and Angela Kanavas of Seattle, WA; his beloved grandchildren, Anastasia, Georgea, and Amalia Pope, Pantelis Tehrani, and Charley Phillips; his siblings, Vasilios Kanavas of Chelmsford, Taki Kanavas of Lowell, and Tasa (Thanasi) Ermilios of Athens, Greece; his sister and brothers in law, Evangelia and Yiannis Chrysanthopoulou, Panos and Fotini Litsiou, and Nikos Gavanas all of Greece, and Mixalis Veroulis of Dracut; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends here and in Greece. Peter was predeceased by his sisters, Vaia Veroulis and Stella Gavana, and his sister-in-law, Niki Kanavas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14th from 9am to 10:30am at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., LOWELL followed by his Funeral Service at 10:30am. Interment in Westlawn II Cemetery, LOWELL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's memory to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at holytrinitylowell.com or the Parkinson's Foundation at parkinson.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Funeral Directors Paul A. Hardy, Jr. & Jennifer Lebaropoulos Hardy.
