Parker E. Hodgdon, age 100, passed away March 17, 2026. He was born December 14, 1925 in
Malden, Massachusetts. He was the son of Wilbert C. Hodgdon and Marion P. (Nason) Hodgdon. As a young boy Parker lived in Massachusetts, Ohio and Georgia. When the family moved from Georgia to Massachusetts, although not permitted, he stowed away in a box car with his horse, Bobby. The conductors would sneak sandwiches to him during the trip.
Parker served in the army in Italy during World War II. After returning home he attended Ohio University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Parker often shared fun stories of flying his classmates home for the weekend in a Piper Cub for pocket money.
Parker married Dorothy Jean Webber from Wilmington, Massachusetts where they built their first home. His first job was with the New England Electric System in Boston (now National Grid) where he later retired as Director of Engineering Services. During his years in Wilmington he served on the Planning Board and Board of Appeals.
In 1988, he and Dot retired to Hyde Park, Vermont. During this time Parker and Dot traveled, and belonged to a dance club. He served as President of the Lamoille Fish & Game Club and was on the Board of Trustees for Hyde Park Electric. Parker's woodworking hobbies included furniture and clock making. He built a small sailboat
for family fun at the lake. Gardening, bee keeping, hunting, range shooting, reloading, fishing and playing his guitar were also his favorite hobbies. He built RC planes and flew with a local group called the "Fly Boys". In his later years he continued his love of flight using Microsoft's Flight Simulator. When you stopped to visit he would say, "I just flew from Heathrow to Logan."
After Dot passed, he began to volunteer at The Manor in Morrisville, Vermont. He was a popular dance partner, called bingo, provided woodworking crafts for the men and hosted "Poker with Parker" (also popular with the ladies). In line with his great sense of humor, Laurie (Life Enrichment Director) knew she could count on him to wear amusing costumes for various events.
Parker had a deep love of family. He is survived by his daughters Linda (Daniel) Donley and Patricia (David) Braun. Grandchildren included Brent, Kyle, Cortney, Trevor, Jean, and Brenda.
Parker's great grandchildren are Devin, Owen and Cara. He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy, and daughter Carol Preston. His brothers Frank and Albert and sister, Irma also predeceased him.
A family Memorial Service will be held.
Donations in Parker's memory are appreciated and may be made to The Manor Life Enrichment Program or the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club.
