I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of a great person. BG Pat Macrone was my very first boss after my High School graduation and a terrific person, very kind and compassionate. His passing has brought me back to memories of the early days of the 157th Inf Bde (M) in Horsham PA. The wonderful memories of BG Macrone, Pat Patterson, Joe Boyer and many others that I cannot remember. My prayers go out to his family.

I served with BG Macrone at Guard Headquarters back in the day. He was a genuine leader; kind, wise and experienced. He taught me many things military, but the lesson I remember the most had nothing to do with the military, but everything to do to with growing grass. We were talking about keeping our lawns nice every year. I don't know how we got on the subject, but he said, "Here's what you do: There will be a few days in February when the temperature climbs and things thaw out a bit. That's when you seed your lawn." I did do that and it works, and I still do that to this day. So put "knowledgable gardener" on the list of the many skills of Pat Macrone.
I am sad.
