Patricia (Hafer) Shimp died peacefully on July 30th, 2024, at the Brixton in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Also known as Pat, Mom, Aunt Tish, and Grandma, she was a resident of Kingsland since 1968.
Patricia Beth Hafer was born in Odell, Texas, October 18, 1933, to Gladys (Jones) and Glen Hafer. Soon after, the family relocated to Vernon, Texas. After graduating from Southland High School, she left for the big city of Amarillo, Texas. She worked as a bookkeeper, and these skills served her well as she progressed into supervisory positions. Pat opened a new chapter in her career when she began working in hotel management. She took on the challenge of turning failing properties into profitable businesses. This took her to several destinations such as Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Odessa, Little Rock, Detroit, and Palm Springs. Truly, she was a woman ahead of her time and managed to establish her own success in a "man's world" at a time when this was uncommon.
Pat also had a creative flair; she had an affection for ceramics and a passion for painting on canvas. Color is the very thing that engaged her in every way whether it was a simple stone she retrieved for her yard, a floral arrangement, or her nail polish for the week. She truly believed we all need a little sparkle. Pat was an avid reader. Reading paperbacks by her favorite author Zane Grey was one of her favorite pastimes.
Pat is survived by her son Bryan Shimp of Bakersfield, California; her daughter Suzan Ratliff of Marble Falls, Texas; grandson, Tanner Ratliff and his wife Kari of Kingsland, Texas; grandson, Bronson Ratliff and his wife Morgan of New Braunfels, Texas. She was blessed with amazing great-grandchildren Kadence, Bristol, Addylon, and Cadence. She was also loved by several nieces and nephews.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents and her son "Mikey" who was tragically killed in an automobile accident as a toddler.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery in Southland, Texas, and the memorial arrangements are pending.
With her passing, the world is void of a little sparkle.
