Patricia Ehmsen Obituary
Coralville - Patricia "Patti" Emma Ehmsen, 77, died at The Bird House - Hospice Home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. She fought a courageous battle against cancer since November 2020. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caregivers of Iowa City Hospice and the Bird House - Hospice Home of Johnson County.
A gathering to celebrate Patti's life will be held Thursday, April 29th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Iowa River Power Restaurant, 501 1st Avenue, Coralville. Due to the pandemic, please wear a mask and be respectful of social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Patricia Ehmsen Memorial Fund c/o Hills Bank & Trust.
Patti requested that no services be held. Private burial will be held on a later date, next to her husband and son, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
Patti was born February 16, 1944 in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Esther (Gulick) Loveless. She was a graduate of Center Point High School. On January 9, 1970 Patti married Harry Ehmsen Jr in Woodstock, Illinois.
Patti's primary career was as a much beloved in-home daycare provider (Patti's Kids) for almost four decades in Coralville, Iowa . Several of Patti's Kids saw her as their second mom and stayed in contact through the years; with a handful returning to have Patti take care of their children. Being a daycare provider to hundreds of kids, was a true passion that led to several daycare families becoming chosen family.
Patti is survived by her son, Harry (Heidi) Ehmsen III of Solon and daughter, Penny Ehmsen of Moline, Illinois; grandchildren, Haleigh Ehmsen, Keighley Ehmsen, Matthew Ehmsen, Harry Ehmsen IV, and Kinsley Ehmsen; and three siblings, Shirley (Donald) Edmonds of Sussex, Wisconsin, Joyce (Kenny) Squires and Ron Loveless, both of Center Point. Her memory will also be cherished by many others who considered her to be a second mom.
Patti was preceded in death by her husband, her son Paul, and grandson Christopher.
