Patricia Gerrish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Hanover on Apr. 1, 2025.
Patricia M. (Wood) Gerrish, age 97, of Hanover passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the Pat Roche Hospice House. She was born in Weymouth on December 11, 1927, the daughter of the late Leo P. Wood and Sarah (Crowell) Donovan. She was raised in Abington and graduated from Abington High School. After marrying her husband Harry, they briefly lived in Chatham before settling in Hanover in 1952 where they raised four wonderful sons.
Patricia worked at the famous Tollhouse in Whitman as a waitress in her teenage years and again as a hostess when her boys were young. She spent their early married years raising the four boys before becoming an Administrative Assistant at Hanover High School after her sons graduated. She enjoyed working there and cherished the relationships she built with her coworkers and the students. She was also a yoga instructor for adult education at Hanover High School for many years. During their summers off from the school, Patricia and Harry owned and operated Crystal Springs Camp, a family camp in Maine, for almost 30 years. This brought a lifetime of memories that will always be cherished. A little known fact about Patricia is that she volunteered her time working for the Kennedy family after JFK's assassination writing thank you notes to people who sent sympathy cards to the family.
She was the epitome of what it means to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend. She spent countless hours on athletic fields and in gymnasiums, at all levels, watching her son's, husband's, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events and loved every moment of them. She was also an avid Boston sports fan. Patricia was strong in her faith and was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's, now Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Hanover.
Patricia was the most kind, compassionate, caring and elegant woman you ever met. All who knew her loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years Harry E. Gerrish and son Stephen P. Gerrish. She is survived by 3 sons, Michael M. Gerrish and his wife Gayle of Hanover, David A. Gerrish and significant other Maria Rosa of Plymouth and Jeffrey J. Gerrish and his wife Karin of Hanover. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at South Shore Hospital and the Pat Roche Hospice House for the compassionate care shown to Patricia and her family.
Visiting Hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53 in Hanover on Friday, April 4th from 4:00-7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Parish at 392 Hanover St. Hanover, MA. Burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pat Roche Hospice House at NVNA and Hospice 120 Longwater Dr. Norwell, MA 02061 or online at the Pat Roche Hospice House Charitable Donations.

Mrs. Gerrish was a wonderful person and always welcomed me into their house. I remember visiting the family camp in Maine and how she would swim across the lake and back as if it was no big deal. I was impressed! A great person and always great Mom and, I am sure, a great grandmother.

My heart breaks for the Gerrish family. I remember Mrs Gerrish like I saw her yesterday. Mr Gerrish also. I can´t hold back the tears as the Gerrish family was an ongoing part of my life. I think of Steve also. I lost my mom a year ago January she was 93 to COVD. I can´t believe how much things have changed. Jeff you and your family are not alone many many people love the Gerrish family and are praying regularly for you hoping Christ will somehow ease your pain as life moves forward. Sending my condolences doesn´t seem enough but I will continue to pray for your Mom Dad and Steve as I know they are together now. I will also pray hard for you guys hoping that some how God will lift your sorrow and show you they are together now saying hurry up you guys and get up here. Twinkling of an eye, your such a wonderful wonderful family and you touched so many of our lives as we grew up
