Patricia Iovene Obituary

Patricia Iovene
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, sister, and aunt Patricia(Trish)Iovene on August 1, 2025, at Branford Hospice following a long illness. Born on March 24, 1947, to the late Anthony and Rose Iovene at Grace New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, Trish was raised in West Haven and attended St. Mary's Catholic School through graduation. Trish was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John XXIII Parish of West Haven. It was her unwavering faith that guided her through the toughest times and helped her make the decision for hospice care. Trish was the original Martha Stewart. She was a terrific cook-never afraid to try unusual or complicated dishes-and honored the traditional recipes passed down from her mother and other family members. She would set a beautiful table that made everyone feel special. Her creativity extended beyond the kitchen; she had a true talent for creating a warm and welcoming living space, always surrounded by plants, Yorkies, and friends. She was renowned for her beautiful crocheting, making baby blankets and Christening outfits for the children of family and friends. She also lovingly crafted sweaters for her beloved Yorkie, Sage-as well as for many other pups before her. An incredibly talented jewelry maker, Trish designed each piece with care and intention, uniquely tailored for its recipient. Her creations reflected her artistic spirit and thoughtful nature, and were treasured by those lucky enough to receive them. Trish had a long career in Hospital Admissions at CHCP. Her warm and comforting way with patients facing difficult procedures or hospital stays made her a favorite among families, physicians, and colleagues. She formed many deep friendships during her time there and maintained those connections throughout her life. Later, Trish brought her gifts of compassion and wisdom to Gateway Community College, where she served as Lab Coordinator and taught with great enthusiasm and dedication. Among the many courses she was involved with, she especially valued teaching a class on Death and Dying, a subject she approached with both sensitivity and insight. She treasured her students and took pride in their growth and success. Her legacy as a teacher was so meaningful to her that she chose to Donate her body to Yale School of Medicine, continuing to educate even in death. Trish also had an adventurous side and was always up for a challenge. Whether hiking the Appalachian Trail or floating down the Amazon River in a dugout canoe, she was a fearless explorer who embraced the excitement of the unknown. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Ellen Iovene and her beloved Yorkie, Sage. She leaves behind her brother Robert Iovene of Florida; her nephews Brandon Iovene and his wife Debbie, and their daughters Bailey and Emma; Brent Iovene and his wife Becky, and their children Isabella and Michael; and Bobby Iovene and his wife Andrea, and their children Angelica and Robert Jr. The family would like to acknowledge the staff on the Liver Transplant Unit, 9W at Yale New Haven Hospital, for their kindness and exceptional care throughout Trish's illness. They are especially grateful for the relationship she shared with Dr. Uyen To, who often went beyond her role as physician to provide support, comfort, and genuine friendship. They would also like to thank the caregivers from Senior Helpers Home Care Agency for their compassion and support, which allowed Trish to remain comfortably at home as she wished. Trish was blessed to have so many wonderful friends around her who provided their love, care, and support. We know how grateful Trish was to them all, including the dedicated members of the Home Care Team from Hospice. Patricia Iovene lived a rich and generous life. Her warmth, humor, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. There will be a memorial service in her honor, followed by a private burial at a yet undetermined date. Please feel free to donate to the Gateway Community College Scholarship Fund in honor of Trish, to help support students in their pursuit of a career in the Health Sciences and Allied Health Programs.

Trish was my "Cousin Patty" growing up as the Perry family took my mother in and they were my many aunts and uncles growing up. These older photos are of Patty and me with our Aunt Mae and Patty's mother, Rose. Our mothers were very close and we spent every holiday together. Lucky me! Rose and Patty were phenomenal cooks. I will miss her. R.I.P "Sister Patsio". Love you.
