Patricia Ann Mayfield, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away on Saturday, June 7, at the age of 74 in Gatesville, Texas. Pat’s memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Scott’s Funeral Home. The family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the family’s Home Place Cemetery.
Pat was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 13, 1950, to Milton Bud Pollard and Billie Greer Pollard. At the age of 10, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mountain Baptist Church in Gatesville. All of her school years were spent in Gatesville, where she was a member of the class of 1969. She praised her teachers who helped her gain the confidence and poise that shaped her future.
Pat lived in Gulfport, Houston, and Victoria. On October 1, 1979, she married Tim Mayfield, and they moved to Gatesville in 1981. They built a home on the family land where she grew up, and they had many happy years together.
She worked at Texas Farm Bureau for 33 years as a claims adjuster and supervisor, retiring in 2010. Retirement gave her more time to focus on the things she enjoyed, such as reading, watching old westerns and classic TV shows, and playing eighty-four and board and card games. Pat led the way for family gatherings during the holidays. She enjoyed shopping throughout the year for her family, and her homemade fudge at Christmas was a savored tradition. Her generosity was unmatched.
When Pat was diagnosed with cancer, she hoped to remain in her home as long as possible. In recent months, family and friends, whom she called her “special angels,” assisted and cared for her every day.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sisters, Penny Whitaker (George) and Peggy Baize (Allen); her brother, Paul Pollard (Evelyn); and her brother-in-law, Carl Mayfield (Kathy). She took great pride in her nieces, Lesli Baker (Daniel), Lauren Whitaker, Marissa Mayfield, and Valerie Medina; and her nephews, Barrett Pollard (Caroline), Joshua Baize, and Jarrod Dunahoo (Kim). Pat also doted on her great nieces and nephews, Gabriel, Emma, Claire, Oliver, Dillon, Levi, and Meredith.
Pat will always be in our hearts.
