Patricia Leigh "Pat" Parnell Matthews, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, and wife of the late Richard "Dick" Gardner Matthews, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at her daughter's home.

Born in Florence, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Henry Ashley Parnell and the late Kathryn Muriel Stokes Parnell. After graduating high school, she attended Winthrop College where she graduated with a degree in medical technology. In 1962 she met Richard, the love of her life. They were married in September 1963. She served for 17 faithful years as a counselor for Savannah Care Center. She was a faithful member of Chapel-By-The-Sea Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was on the finance committee. She leaves a legacy as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her presence this side of heaven will be deeply grieved.

Pat is survived by daughters, Leigh Powers (John) and Kelly Childree (Kevin); grandchildren, Victoria Powers, Madison Cooper (Alex), Tucker Powers (Anna), Kip Powers, Matthew Childree (Delia); great-grandchildren, Brooks Cooper and Peyton Cooper; a sister, Sterling Kelley; and several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o'clock Friday morning, July 19, 2024, at Chapel-By-The-Sea Baptist Church – 811 Butler Avenue, Tybee Island.

The funeral service will follow at 11 o'clock Friday morning, July 19, 2024, at the church, conducted by the Reverend Doctor David C. Laughner. Private interment will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina.
