Patricia Smith Murrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home on Oct. 12, 2025.

Patricia Ann Smith Murrell, born October 31, 1947, in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Maria Ann Smith, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. After 77 beautiful years, she traded her garden here on earth for the heavenly one above-where the flowers never wilt and the hummingbirds never fly away. Patricia was the devoted wife of Joseph Murrell, Jr., her partner in love and laughter for 56 wonderful (and sometimes spirited) years. Together they built a life rich in family, faith, and a fair bit of sass. Patricia had a green thumb, a love for all things that bloomed, and a special place in her heart for hummingbirds-her tiny reminders that God's grace is both gentle and beautiful. She believed in keeping a tidy home and was not afraid to speak her mind, though she moved at her own pace and only did what she truly wanted to do. She was, without a doubt, one of a kind.
A people person to her core, Patricia never met a stranger and could make anyone feel at home-usually with a story, a laugh, or a gentle nudge to "straighten up that mess." Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who could do no wrong in her eyes. She is survived by her children Clarence (Dana) Murrell of Versailles, Melonie (James) Wilkinson of Lexington, Ruth (William) Wills of Frankfort, Joseph Murrell of Midway, and Derrick (Melinda) Coffey of Lexington; her sister Carmen Mason of Nicholasville; sister-in-law Eunice Hamilton; grandchildren Justin, Shalice, Audrianna, Alexia, and Willis; great-grandchildren Calie, Traiten, and Cyree; and close nieces Marie Smith, Jessica Mason, and Lauren Mason, along with a host of special nieces and nephews. Though her earthly work is done, Patricia has gone to her eternal home-where she's surely tending the Lord's flowerbeds, keeping heaven spotless, and making sure everyone knows exactly how things ought to be done.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Total Grace Church. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm following visitation officiated by Pastor Michael Robinson. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens where pallbearers will be Michael Reed, Miquel Reed, Dustin Hamblin, Cortez Warren, Raymond Smith and Kenneth Chisley. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and leave messages of condolence here on Patricia's tribute wall at www.BlackburnandWard.com.

Yesterday

When I met Patricia Murrell 34 years ago I was so nervous. She made me feel very comfortable and welcomed to the family the 1st day we talked. Later on we welcomed her 2nd grandchild. When our baby girl came she sd ,"you can call me Nana ". So her grandbabies called her Nana and so did I and been for years. I thank you so Nana for your kind words, wisdom, kindness, helping with Shalice on several occasions and you never complain. You was like a mother to me and I thank you and love you so much. You will be truly missed. I pray for Paw-Paw, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren during this difficult time. Love you all
