Patricia Jane Wainland, of Ellicott City, MD, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones, on October 29, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Pat, beloved wife, mother and friend, was born on June 18, 1951, to Fred and Cornelia Ranford in Hudson, New York. After graduating from Hudson High School in 1969 with a New York State Regents Scholarship, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education Biology at the State University College at Oneonta, New York. It was here, in 1969, she met Steve, her future husband.

Graduating with honors in 1973, she landed a teaching job at her alma mater Hudson High.

In August of 1974, Pat and Steve were married in Copake, NY.

In May 1977, Pat earned a Master of Science degree in Advanced Classroom Teaching from the State University of New York at Albany.

In 1983, having moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, she took a position as the Educational Program Supervisor at the prestigious Discovery Place Science Museum, where she worked until David, her only child, was born in 1985. From that point forward she dedicated her life to raising David and unselfishly taking care of her small family.

In 1994, Pat and her family moved to Ellicott City, MD.

Pat enjoyed the beach, nature, baking, shopping, reading, and researching her family's genealogy, but most of all she relished spending time with her family, especially playing board games with David.

Pat is survived by her husband Steve and her son David, her sister- and brother-in-law Sandi and Eddie Whalen and nephew Brian Whalen of Johns Creek, GA, sister- and brother-in-law Carol and David Wainland of Cherry Hill, NJ, cousin Betty Buchwalter and her family Neil, Heather and Rachel of Valrico, FL as well as numerous other cousins and cherished friends.
