Robert Dennis Emanuel, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 30, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on December 23, 1935, in Iowa City, IA, Bob was a man of deep faith and boundless humor who lived a life characterized by service, love, and laughter. He passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by the warmth of his family's presence in Ellicott City, MD.

Bob was a devoted husband to Elinor Nolde Emanuel for 57 beautiful years, a loving father to Christine Emanuel and Katherine Elise Phillips, and a cherished father-in-law to Timothy Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Emanuel, his brother William A. Emanuel, and his brother-in-law Harry Jasperson. He is survived by his sister Joan Jasperson, sister-in-law Joan Emanuel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Deane Nolde, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Janell Nolde. Bob's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Preston, Finn, Lulu, Annie, Danny, Declan, and Parker, as well as his many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Bob's journey in education began at the University of Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree, after which he was drafted and served with honor in the Army Strategic Command. Following his military service, Bob embarked on a career with the Social Security Administration and the Health Care Financing Administration, where he dedicated many years before retiring. His desire to serve extended into his later years as he became a Howard County Ombudsman and a salesman for Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL).

Bob's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was very active in his church, Emmanuel Lutheran, serving in various leadership positions over the years. His service to the community was unwavering, exemplified by his volunteer work with Our Daily Bread in Baltimore City, providing food and comfort to the homeless and those in need. Bob's leadership skills shone brightly as he presided over his community association for many years, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support among his neighbors.

An avid reader, Bob loved nothing more than to delve into a good book, work on crosswords, or complete intricate jigsaw puzzles. His loyalty to the Iowa Hawkeyes was unparalleled, and he found great joy in tending to his garden as a Master Gardener. His passion for golf was matched only by his love for socializing with friends. Bob's love for dogs was well-known, and his sense of humor was infectious.

In every role-whether as a loving husband, a caring father, a doting grandfather, a loyal friend, or a dedicated servant of his community-Bob Emanuel lived a life that was full and purposeful. His legacy is one of love, selflessness, and the unwavering belief in the goodness of people and the grace of God.

As we bid farewell to Bob, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with him. His spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories we cherish. Bob Emanuel was a man of faith, a steward of the Earth, and a guiding light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those he loved. May he rest in peace in the loving embrace of our Lord.
