Pat, as she was called by her family, was born in Seattle to Bob and Vivian Bigelow. She attended Ingraham High School in Seattle, and graduated from high school in Birmingham, Alabama where her father was transferred for work. After moving back to Seattle, she met future husband, Scott, who was serving his country in the Coast Guard. Soon after their marriage they moved and settled in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, where they raised their sons, Aaron and Jacob, and Pat served her community by volunteering at the voting polls. Pat and Scott were married for 55 years until his passing in 2022. Following their move back to Washington about twenty years ago, Pat and Scott bought and updated their dream home on Whidbey Island, which Pat loved furnishing with adorable beach and animal décor.
Pat was a dear, sweet person the best daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. Her family and friends were her world. She devoted the later years of her life to caring for her oldest son, Aaron, and Scott; she was a fierce and constant advocate for each of them. She loved visits by her youngest son, Jacob, who lives in Pennsylvania. She kept up to date on the activities and goings on of her grandchildren, Robert, Aidan, Brady, and Riley. Pat loved and cherished spending time with her sisters she enjoyed antique shopping and lunching with Linda on the Island, and, beachcombing visits by Pam. She also loved her very close-knit group of Bigelow cousins and enjoyed visiting with them nearly every year. Patty, as she was known to her many friends on the Island, also enjoyed spending time with friends from P.E.O., the neighborhood, the gym and her "coffee klatch".
Pat passed peacefully on February 27th after a short bout with cancer, during which her family and friends rallied to support, comfort, and help her. Pat continues to be loved and is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sons, Aaron Waltenbaugh and Jake Waltenbaugh (Meredith Lavelle Waltenbaugh), her grandchildren, Robert Waltenbaugh, Aidan Waltenbaugh, Brady Waltenbaugh, and Riley Waltenbaugh, her sisters, Pamela Allen and Linda Reid, her nieces Michele Cree and Dana Reid (Larry Hitchon), and nephews Adam Allen (Vicki Allen), Sean Allen (Heidi Allen) and Kris Reid (Jim Ellis), as well as by many grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her spouse, Walter Scott Waltenbaugh, and her parents, Robert and Vivian Bigelow.
There will be a celebration of life for Pat and Scott on April 5th at Freeland Hall, Freeland, Washington (Whidbey Island) from 2 to 5 pm. No flowers please. Please feel free to make donations in Pat and/or Scott's honor to a charity of your choice.
