In Loving Memory of Patrick Samuel Currin Sr.
It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of Patrick Samuel Currin Sr., a cherished husband, devoted father, steadfast protector, and beloved pillar of the Maynard community. Pat passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Emerson Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family and close friends. He was ninety-one years old.
Born in Chicago, IL, to William Howard and Elizabeth Catherine (Dawson) Currin, Pat's early years were shaped by the warmth of his grandparents in Fenton, Michigan, where he spent his summers. He answered the call to serve, joining the United States Army at the impressive age of 16 years old, and dedicating over ten years to protecting his country. A veteran of the Korean War, he served with honor in artillery and as a military police officer, embodying duty and courage.
Upon returning to civilian life, Pat made his mark in Maynard, first as a business owner running his own restaurant, then as a respected officer of the Maynard Police Department, where he served for twenty-five years, retiring as sergeant. His leadership, fairness, and unwavering commitment to justice earned him the admiration of colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.
Beyond his career in public service, Pat was a self-taught carpenter and decksmith, known for his skill and dedication to his craft. He took great pride in his work, performing home renovations, building decks, furniture, and other wood structures with care and precision. His handiwork can be seen throughout the community, each piece reflecting his attention to detail and love for creating something both beautiful and lasting.
Pat's devotion extended beyond his career-his faith was his foundation. As superintendent of St. Bridget's Cemetery, he ensured it remained a place of dignity and solace. His efforts were instrumental in the renovation of St. Bridget's Church in the 1990s, overseeing the project that preserved this sacred space for generations to come. A familiar and comforting presence at the church, cemetery, and within the community, Pat's unwavering spirit and quiet acts of kindness touched the lives of countless people.
Above all, Pat was a family man, treasuring every moment with his loved ones. He was the devoted husband of Barbara (Cianni) Currin, sharing over forty-seven years of love and partnership. His greatest pride was his children: Richard Maki, Paul Huhtamaki, Lara Seppala, Erick Currin, and PJ Currin, and his cherished grandchildren: Nichole, Samantha, and Emma Seppala, and Sophia, Max, and Autumn Currin.
Pat's legacy of kindness, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many whose lives he touched. His strength, generosity, and unwavering dedication made the world brighter, safer, and kinder.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte. 111), Acton, on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 4th, at 10:00 AM at St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard, followed by burial at St. Bridget's Cemetery.
Pat's memory will forever be a blessing.
