Patrick Hawes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2025.
Patrick John Hawes, 77, of Roswell, Georgia, passed away surrounded by family on July 16, 2025.

Pat was born April 7, 1948 in Tangiers, Nova Scotia, Canada to the late Joseph and Marie Hawes. He was the fourth of ten children.

Born in Nova Scotia, he moved to Newfoundland as an infant. During his childhood, Pat and his family moved to Montreal where he and his siblings were raised. After completing high school, Pat secured a job with the Bank of Nova Scotia and worked in numerous branches between Montreal and Toronto. He then held a variety of positions in the Head Office in Toronto, before being transferred to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997. He worked for the bank for over 35 years.

After moving to Toronto, Pat met his wife, Jennifer, in 1983 and they were married on November 29, 1986. The couple welcomed their son James in 1989 and daughter Amy in 1991.

Pat was an avid lover of all things Montreal, whether it was wearing a Canadian hat so he could talk about the Canadiens or making sure everyone knew the best way to make a pizza was to put smoked meat under the cheese. His favorite activities included cooking - where he was inspired by online videos to create his own version of dishes from Asia to the Caribbean to Western Canada - and golf, which he would play regularly and watch (or sleep through) for hours at a time. He loved traveling to both the Ocean and the Mountains equally, with his favorite vacation requiring plenty of time to stare at the waves or hike to his favorite mountain lake for the 95th time.

Pat was a family man above all. He was affectionately called Copper by his siblings, Uncle Paddy by nieces and nephews and, most recently, Grumpy by his grandchildren. Pat had no shortage of nicknames for those who meant everything to him. The love he had for family had no bounds and was exemplified in his everyday actions, whether it be daily calls to one of his siblings or children, or spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren making lasting memories.

Pat is survived by his wife Jennifer; son James; daughter Amy (CJ); grandchildren Nolan and Charlotte; siblings Ronald, Sidney, Kathleen, Brian, Maureen, Terence, and Patricia; and over 20 nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie; brother Samuel; and sister Anne.

A memorial service will be held at Northbrook United Methodist Church in Roswell on Tuesday, September 30 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WABE (WABE.org) or PBS as these were Pat's favorite television stations.
