Patrick Reginald Hill, 81, passed away on July 1, 2025, in San Diego, California. Born on March 17, 1944 in Georgetown, Guyana, to Reginald Clement and Cornelia “Gem” Hill, Patrick was the oldest of four children, with three siblings: Pauline, Cecile, and Terrance Hill. Patrick’s journey took him across continents and cultures. With the support of his parents, he left Guyana in 1962 to pursue higher education in Canada, and later earned a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He married Carmen Zuniga in 1977, and their chapter led them through Grenada, Brazil, and eventually back to the United States. They raised three daughters together in Brea, California, until 1995. Patrick is survived by his daughters and their families—Sabrina and Marvin Guanio, with sons Julius and Fabian; Madeline Carswell, with sons Imani and Ezra; and Gabriela and Tony Gonzalez, with son Noah—as well as extended family from Toronto to Trinidad. Never one to shy away from his beliefs, Patrick led a colorful life. He’ll be remembered for his passion for the sciences, his love of music and lush gardening, and, above all, for the lessons he passed on to his family. Patrick passed away peacefully, just hours after a final conversation with his daughters and receiving last rites. He was laid to rest in his favorite arboretum.
