Patrick Kolar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nie Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. - Liberty Road Chapel on Jan. 18, 2023.
Patrick Michael (Mickey) Kolar passed away January 11, 2023, after an excruciating battle with Parkinson's Disease. He has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his loved ones.
Mickey was born on November 28, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. He was the youngest of four boys to his parents Mary Jane and Walter Terrance Kolar. Mickey attended All Saints Catholic Grade School and High School. After High School he attended the University of Windsor and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Mickey enlisted into the United States Air Force where he continued to study and earn his master's degree. After leaving the Air Force, Mickey worked in Washington DC and at Eastern Michigan University as a librarian, traveled to Africa to help build a library, and finally, returned to the states finishing his career with the Detroit Public Library, Main Campus.
Mickey met the love of his life, Marsha Courtley while working at Eastern Michigan University. They were married for more than 30 years, and enjoyed traveling, music, the arts, but most of all the love they shared with their family! Mickey loved to spend time with his brothers and their large families. He enjoyed telling stories, eating pizza, and an ice-cold beer! He could talk about anything to anyone, as he had a wealth of knowledge and loved to learn new things. He was kind hearted and compassionate! He will be missed by so many who enjoyed his company!
Mickey was an enormous Detroit sports fan! He enjoyed attending, watching on television, or listening to all the various teams. He was thrilled to hear that the Lions finally had a winning season this year!
Mickey is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marsha; Marsha's son, David; his parents and all of his brothers.
He is survived by his stepson, Curtis; grandson, Diante; great-grandson, Billie; sisters-in-law, Carole and Patricia, as well as Patricia Kolar; brothers-in-law, John (Michael) and Jeffery; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a celebration of life in the spring. A future date will be announced.
