Patrick "Pat" Henry Hypes, born on May 21, 1945, in St. Albans, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by family. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Pat leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
A graduate of St. Albans High School, Class of 1964, Pat embarked on a career that spanned many years as a restaurant manager and as a small business owner. His professional journey was marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence and his natural ability to connect with others, traits that endeared him to colleagues and patrons alike.
Pat was known for his caring and generous nature, sharp wit, and adventurous spirit. He brought laughter and joy to those around him with his devilish sense of humor and boisterous personality. His curiosity about the world was evident in his many interests, including music, fishing, hunting, playing billiards and cards, and most importantly, his passion for astronomy. A spiritual Christian, Pat's faith guided him throughout his life.
Pat is survived by his daughter, Alison (Jack) Chidester, and his grandchildren Jacob (Brittney Coulter) Chidester, Liam (Abbi Ray) Chidester, James (Sabrena Kincaid) Williams, and Jessica (Braxton Brubaker) Williams. He also leaves behind his great-grandson, Patrick Williams, and expecting another great grandson; his siblings Joanne Guthrie, Eleanor O'Daniel, Charles Hypes, Arvyl (Josephine) Hypes, Michael (Georgene) Hypes; longtime friend, Bobbi Burdette; niece, Kim Hypes; along with many more family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents, James and Freda Hypes, his son, Patrick Keith Hypes, and siblings Dreama Hutchison and Lonnie Hypes.
In remembering Pat, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. His spirit will continue to shine through the countless lives he touched during his time with us.
