Patrick Perry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel on Sep. 12, 2024.
Patrick ("Pat") R. Perry of Salinas, CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September
3, 2024, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after battling Parkinson's
disease for more than 10 years. He was 75 years old.
Pat was born on December 16, 1948. He graduated from Palma High School after
spending three years in the Jesuit seminary, and then attended Cal Poly in San Luis
Obispo where he earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture with a minor in
entomology. He also was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in the
Army National Guard for six years.
After college, Pat returned to Salinas to work in the ag industry, where he spent the
entirety of his 45-year career. He worked in nearly every aspect of farming, in positions
ranging from pest control advisor at Crown Packing and partner at A&P Farms to small
business owner of Silver Creek Farms and production manager at Sakata Seed. He
farmed with pride and passion and worked until the very last day that he could before
retiring from Sakata in 2019.
Pat spent much of his free time enjoying nature: hiking in Big Sur and the Ventana
Wilderness, hunting at the family deer club, fishing in Monterey Bay, and bike riding
along the coast. He loved getting together with family and friends to BBQ or cheer on
the 49ers, and was best known for his elaborate stories, Jeopardy-level knowledge, and
sense of humor.
Pat is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Althea, and brothers James and Dennis;
he is survived by his brother Joseph and sister-in-law Patty Perry. He leaves behind his
beloved wife of 52 years, Pattie LaMacchia Perry; daughter Katie and son-in-law Chris
Payne with granddaughter Chloe; son Nick Perry; and daughter Jennifer and son-in-law
Martin Thaggard with grandson Oliver.
A mass will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 22
Stone St. in Salinas, CA.
