Patrick Romps Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Funeral Home - Escanaba on Feb. 23, 2026.
Patrick Brian Romps, age 58, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026.

He was born on March 17, 1967 to William A. Romps and Shirley J. Romps (Schmitz) in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. He was the youngest of their 12 children.

Patrick attended the Learning Center in Hancock and then in Escanaba, graduating in 1990. He then went to work at Lakestate Industries.

Patrick was a very outgoing person, greeting strangers like long lost friends and always wanting to talk and interact with people. He loved hugs and was assertive about giving them.

Having been born on St. Patrick's Day, Pat's favorite color was green. He was also very patriotic and loved everything red, white and blue.

Patrick liked sports and played basketball and wrestling in the Special Olympics for many years.

He was a Lion's fan because of his family, a Packer fan because of his friends and a Patriots fan because they always seemed to win.

Patrick loved music. He liked going to concerts and to the movies. He loved food, soda pop and going out to eat; Old Country Buffet (all you can eat) and of course The Stonehouse.

Patrick lived with his sister Mary and brother-in-law for the last 30 years. To their two children, Cailin and Liam, he was not exactly an older brother but more than just a loving uncle.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Shirley, his brother Dennis, and his brother and Godfather, William Romps.

He is survived by his Aunt Judith Schmitz, sister-in-law Catherine (Bill), and his siblings, Ronald Romps (Carol), Thomas Romps (Marcy), Cheryl Stein (Randy), Diane Talford (David), John Romps (Starr), Michael Romps (Rannah), Robert Romps (Linda), James Romps (Linda) and Mary Carignan (Shaun); as well as many nephews and nieces and their children.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 26th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Timothy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics Michigan- Area 1, P.O. Box 275, Wells, MI 49894.
