William Romps Obituary
Bill was born on June 8, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., to the late William A. and Shirley Jane (Schmitz) Romps.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Catherine "Katie" Romps; son, Bill (Chris) Romps; two daughters, Theresa (Kevin) Oliver, and Lisa (Scott) Barinotti; seven grandchildren, Katie, Beth, Megan, Heather, Sara, Grace, and Geno; seven great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Ron Romps, Tom Romps, John Romps, Mike Romps, Bob Romps, Jim Romps, and Pat Romps; and three sisters, Cheryl Stein, Diane Talford, and Mary Carignan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Romps; and granddaughter, Rachel Kubitz.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Jacob Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, Mich. Prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford, Mich., with Monsignor Joseph O. Gouin officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Church. Burial will take place at Quinnesec Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by American Legion Post #50 and the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers donations, the family request a donation be made to St. Jude's Hospital.

I was an Army buddy of Bill's. We attended the Army Lanuage School together. Although (DLIWC)is the best known military language school, we attended DLI-EC in Arlington, Virginia. We were assigned to Fort Meyer, VA, home of Arlington INational Cemetary. We served in the Army Security Agency and were assigned to different duty stations when our Ma darin language training was completed.
Bill was a great guy: friendly, athletic and highly intelligent. He was a good soldier and better friend.
