Ryan, Patrick Dean Jr. – of Chesaning, died Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw after a short battle with cancer. He was 76 years of age.
Born June 5, 1947, Patrick was the youngest of 4 children. He lived in Chesaning most of his life. His first job was working for the family business, Ryan Motor Sales (affectionately called The Garage), where he became a mechanic. Anyone who knew Pat knew he was a born mechanic. There was nothing too big or too small for him to disassemble, find the problem and put it back together.
In 1968, Pat would enlist in the National Guard for 5 years, going there on the weekends and working at the garage during the week. Upon discharge, he would receive the highest marksmanship badge, Expert Rifle with M16 and bar. This would be no surprise since Pat was a born hunter. He spent a good portion of a year in camouflage. Also, an avid fisherman, he was known to go out in the boat at Lake Arrowhead with ten poles around the boat, proceed to take a nap and tell his daughter to wake him if we got a bite.
With a few jobs in between The Garage, Pat eventually got his dream job working at the Fontinalis Club in Vanderbilt, Michigan. A stone's throw from his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, he worked a dream job of guiding, fishing, hunting and generally being outdoors' most of the day. Pat would live up north in the summer and go back down in the fall and winter in Chesaning. He worked for Fontinalis for 16 years before retiring.
Pat enjoyed life, liked going for rides at night, watching the sci-fi channel, collecting interesting and useful things. He also loved his dogs very much, from Blackie to Suzy to Phoenix to Pooch and Belle, but his biggest love was his wife, Jeanne. They spent 46 years together as each other's best friend.
He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick W. Ryan on November 19, 1981, mother, Gladys Vivian Ryan on May 29, 2006; brother-in-law, Bill Krycziok; and brother, Michael Ryan.
Left to mourn him is his beloved wife, Jeanne; his daughter, April (Kerby) Sides; grandchildren, Samuel and Reagan; sisters, Jeanine (Ronnie) Hunt, Diane Krycziok, and James (Donna) Ryan; nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Misiuk Funeral Home with Rosemary Newcomb officiation. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will begin Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Contributions in his memory may be given to his family.
