Patrick Schouten Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Salt Lake City on Dec. 23, 2024.
Patrick Daniel Schouten was born on October 15 1963 in Chicago Illinois to mother Elvira Schouten and father Jack Schouten. Pat's career as an I.T. guy brought him to Salt Lake City, Utah in the mid-90s.
Pat passed away on December 12 2024 after an unexpected, short 3 - week battle with an aggressive end stage cancer. Pat put up the strongest fight of any man we've ever known. Not one time did he complain of pain, sadness, or fear. He courageously, until the moment he passed, reassured his wife, children and grandchildren that he was good, not to worry, he loves them and they'd all be together again someday. Pat did not want to leave, but his body was too ravaged and tired from the cancer, chemo and dialysis. He did and tried all that he could to stay for his family.
From a very young age Pat had a love for HAM Radio and Radio-Controlled Airplanes. His love of RC model airplanes and the hobby industry led him to open Some Dudes Hobby Shop. For over 15 years Pat's store was deemed the best RC aircraft and hobby supply store in the Salt Lake Valley. His vast love, knowledge and kindness supported the RC community and led to countless friendships, laughs and love with all who walked through the door of his store. Pat was the "Dude" of Some Dudes Hobby Shop.
Pat's love for HAM radio and radio broadcasting projected his legacy and friendship all over the world through the airwaves as K7LNP for over 40 years. Pat had a "Radio Voice" that was naturally comforting and entertaining. He would go on to later host the syndicated "The Fringe" radio show on K-TALK AM 630 with his wife Carol. When Pat was not hanging out with his loved ones, you could find him on the airwaves; broadcasting all over the bands to his friends near and afar from his humble ham radio shack.
Pat's biggest dream in life was to have a family of his own. It was in his very own hobby shop that he met his soul mate, the love of his life, Carol Marsing (Wife). Patrick would come to be the kindest, sweetest, most loving and patient father to Craig R Wilkerson Jr (Son) and his (Daughter, late) Katelyn Christine Wilkerson. Pat and Craig were best friends, sharing the same hobbies and favorite past times. Pat and Katelyn shared the strongest of father daughter relationships. There was no measure for the amount of laughter, unconditional love and dedication between the three of them. Pat, although heartbroken of his daughter Katelyn's tragic and young passing; continued to be the rock and support his family throughout the unimaginable loss. His love, calmness and exceptional personality proved to be the cornerstone of his family of navigating life without his daughter.
Patrick graduated to "Papa" status when his granddaughter, Sierra "Cici" Kate Wilkerson was born. Pat and Sierra had an inseparable bond from the moment she was born. Just a few short years later Pat found himself once again becoming a "Papa" with the birth of his grandson Jackson Kate-Patrick Wilkerson. Pat was honored to have his grandson share his name. He soon learned that the only love bigger than that of his "Princess", was the love for his "Little Man." Pat was more than a grandfather to his grandchildren. He was their best friend, their peace, their love and their safe space in life. From their birth until the day Pat departed this world, they were at his side. Even though in those 9 years they have shared Trillions of "I love you's'" and precious moments; the love that he shared with his grandchildren was and is bigger than life, more than any words can explain.
Pat is an amazing person with a heart of gold. He loved so much and unconditionally. He showed love and kindness to everyone he met in life. Pat was truly one of a kind. He will never be forgotten; may his love and kindness live on in the heart of every life he's touched along the way.
Pat's last words were "I love you" and "I'll see you again"
(Our love will never die; I'll hold you in my heart until I hold you again my love)
Pat is preceded in death by his daughter, Katelyn Christine Wilkerson. His loving Mother, Elvira Schouten.. Uncle Bernard "Barney" Ciabattini. and Uncle Paul "Pauly" Cabattini. aunt Margaret J Schouten
There will be no service's per Pat's Wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Carol and family, we are so saddened to learn of Pat's departure. Pat was a friend since the early 90's. We had so so many laughs working together and just generally hanging out together. Remember when you and Cissy went to the store and we set the deck on fire? We will miss him dearly.
