Gary Youngberg Obituary

Gary Holt Youngberg, born December 15, 1940, passed peacefully from this life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and deep love for his family.

Gary was born in Ogden, Utah, to Cheston and Louise Youngberg and was raised in West Point, Utah. As a young man, he met the love of his life, Della, when she bravely stepped out of her comfort zone and invited him to a girls’ choice dance. That simple invitation began a beautiful love story that would span 66 devoted years of marriage. Gary and Della were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 11, 1959, and their love affair continued every day of their lives. They now look forward with faith and hope to the eternity still to come.

Together, Gary and Della raised their family in Roy, Utah, before moving to Layton, Utah, where they spent the next 42 years building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love.

Gary was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served in many callings throughout his life, including Elders Quorum President, Second Counselor in the Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, Stake Seventy, Stake Missionary, and in numerous teaching roles. His testimony and dedication to service were evident to all who knew him.

Family was the center of Gary’s world. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Steve (Pauline) Youngberg, Karen (Sam) Miller, Dave (Lisa) Youngberg, Paul (Becca) Youngberg, Mark (Jenny) Youngberg, and Becky Luck. He was the proud grandfather of 27 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Gary’s happiest moments were spent with his family. He loved four-wheeling adventures, trips to Lagoon, camping excursions to Disneyland, Zion National Park, Lava Hot Springs, and Yellowstone. The holidays held a special place in his heart—especially Christmas, with the treasured Christmas Eve traditions that gathered the entire family together. Thanksgiving, Easter, and the Fourth of July were also cherished celebrations filled with food, laughter, and togetherness.

He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and could often be found cheering loudly for the #17 car and his favorite driver, Matt Kenseth.

Throughout his career, Gary held many different positions, but his favorite roles were managing restaurants, where his natural gift for connecting with people and his love for serving others truly shined. He also enjoyed his time driving an 18-wheeler, embracing the adventure of the open road. Gary was innovative and always thinking of new ideas to bring happiness and excitement to his family’s lives.

Gary will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful servant, and a man who lived to bring joy to others. His legacy of love, faith, and family traditions will continue to bless generations to come.

He is survived by his sweet wife Della, one brother (Brent), six children, 25 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Ron) two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed until that joyful reunion day.

Services will be held Wednesday February 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Aspen Cove Ward Chapel, 789 E. Wasatch Dr., Layton, Utah. Friends and family may visit Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah., and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Interment will be held at the West Point City Cemetery.
