Patrick Weitzel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wilton Mortuary on Nov. 3, 2024.
Patrick Joseph Weitzel, 82, of Peoria, IL, passed peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Pat was born on July 16, 1942, in Pekin. He was devoted to his mother, Mary Ellen, who proceeded him in death. Also awaiting him at the Gates of Heaven, was his father, Raymond F. Weitzel; brothers, Raymond Weitzel and Joseph Moss; and sister, Margaret "Margie" Morrissey.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marilyn J. Weitzel, whom he married October 22, 1977; his five children: Angela (Anthony) Voss of Peoria, IL, Lisa (Edward) Weitzel-Titsworth of Springfield, IL, Pilar (David) Winters of The Villages, FL, Richard Weitzel of Peoria, IL, and Christina Holland of Sacramento, CA; nine grandchildren; one brother, Murt (Mimi) Weitzel of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Mary Brod of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Pat worked hard his whole life, starting with his service in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Control operator. Following his time in the Air Force, he had several professional sales positions and eventually retired from the Illinois State Police. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and devoting time to helping various Veteran organizations.
He was an intellectual thinker with an analytical mind. He loved working with numbers, and you could always find him with a pen and paper in his shirt pocket ready to work out a numerical challenge. Pat studied under a master handwriting analyst and became an experienced handwriting analyst himself. He used that skill to analyze the handwriting of individuals for decades, including some politicians. He was also very creative and enjoyed using his computer to create designs for his woodworking, laser engraving, and 3-D printing hobbies.
Pat loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. He was always as close as a phone call for family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Wilton Mortuary followed with Military Honors and a service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight (P.O. Box 5072, Peoria, IL 61601).
