Patsy R. "Ma Boone" Boone

Mrs. Patsy R. "Ma Boone" Boone, 73, of Lenox, Georgia passed away March 5, 2024 at South Georgia Medical Center surrounded by her husband, daughters, family and friends. She was born February 26, 1951 in Tifton, Georgia to the late Thomas Leon Rutland and Lena Sumner Rutland. Patsy lived all of her life in Cook County and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Patsy was a secretary for the University of Georgia Extension Service and retired after 20 years of service. She was employed by the Cook County Board of Education as a registered nurse serving at the Cook County Middle School. She previously worked for 18 years at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Patsy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Royce Boone, two daughters and sons-in-law: Becky and Stacy Beard, Bonnie and Danny Brady, all of Lenox; seven grandchildren: Bill Mitchell of Norman Park, Georgia, Jacob Shirah and Kendall Maxwell of Lenox, Bobby Mitchell of Norman Park, Wes Shirah and Laine Weeks of Lenox, Ches and Jordan Beard of Enigma, Georgia, Leanna and Josh Southerland of Sparks, Georgia, Jena and Tunner Taylor of Adel; great grandchildren: Levi Beard and Dawson Beard both of Enigma, Addison Southerland of Sparks and LouVe Taylor of Adel; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Thomas C. "Hody" and Linda Rutland, Terrell H. "Curley" and Debbie Rutland, all of Lenox; one sister, Virginia R. Godwin of Valdosta; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vernon and Freddie Phelps of Sparks; brother-in-law, Danny Griffin of Lenox; several nieces and nephews; her life-long best friend, Jan Godwin Slaughter of Hahira, Georgia; friends: Durl Baldree of Lenox, L.A. Walker of Demopolis, Alabama, C.R. Thompson of Tifton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jack Shirah; a sister, Anne Rutland; brother-in-law, James Owen Godwin; sister-in-law, Lana Boone Griffin; and life-long friend Charles "Michael" Godwin.
A funeral service was held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Ray and Rev. Jerry Kennedy officiating and Mrs. Jan Godwin Slaughter providing the eulogy. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Visitation took place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Boone Funeral Home. Mrs. Boone lied in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Susie Betts played piano, Jackie Wetherington played the organ, Christopher Rutland sang "I Can Only Imagine" and the congregation sang "Victory in Jesus;" other special music for the service included "The Midnight Cry" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain." Bill Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Jacob Shirah, Wes Shirah, Christopher Rutland, Brian Rutland, Benjie Rutland and Ches Beard served as pallbearers.
