June Montgomery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boone Funeral Home, Inc (North) on Mar. 9, 2026.
Surrounded by her children, Betty "June" Montgomery walked through Heaven's Gate March 7, 2026. Known to friends and family as, "Mama", "Gemaw", "Mama June", "Miss June", and "Sis. June"; she was a loving mother to many; "Miss June" and "Sister June" to countless others; and The Master's Faithful Servant.

June was born in Tarrytown, Florida, on Mother's Day 1937, to Shelbie Lee and Latrelle Marie (Rogers) Thomas and her big sister, Barbara Jo "Bobbie Jo". Two particular things Latrelle taught her girls were to love God and play piano and organ. Raised in the Linden Church of God, by the age of 13, she was ministering in music and song in that little church.

She went on to serve the Lord as clerk, and pianist churches across FL and GA until the age of 87. The longer being 20 years at the Eustis Church of God (FL) and her last 25 in her final church home, the Grand Ridge Church of God in Grand Ridge, Florida. But God had one more music mission for her. At the age of 88 (in recovery from a fall), her Father used her to bless and comfort a room full of residents at Southwell Rehabilitation in Adel, GA. Their voices raised in worship while Mama played could be heard up and down the halls!

June's musical talents also included singing. She was a member of an all-female gospel quartet known as, "The Melodettes" who sang all over Florida and southern Georgia with many well-known gospel groups in the early 1950s until-according to Aunt Bobbie-"She got married and broke up the group just before we were supposed to be on the Arthur Godfrey Show!" We're fairly certain Aunt Bobbie Jo, Aunt Greta and Aunt Tommy have forgiven her by now.

Sis. June spent 75 years in service to our Lord. She planted seeds in countless states across this country including churches who needed a piano player while we vacationed from TX to NC. In so doing, she modeled God's Hands Extended all to see…Especially her children. Forty-two years of service (and ministry) were dedicated to Tatum's Hardware & Supply where she became part of the Tatum family. She met and befriended most of the folks in Calhoun & Jackson FL counties. People are calling to say, "You don't know me, but I loved your Mama!"

She was known for her humor, humility, talent, devotion, selflessness, & kindness. She loved laughter, singing, worshipping at home while playing her piano; flowers; plants; songbirds; baking for family, friends, & church fundraisers, or any occasion; and most of all spending time with family and friends and being in church.

June is reunited with Latrelle/Shelbie (parents); Shelley Marie (daughter); Kevin Montgomery, Jr. (grandson); Bobbie Jo/Rob/Dennie (sister & family); Greta & Tommy (aunts); Wayne/Juanita; Jeanette; Peggy; Jake; Vestal; & endless others.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Robinson; Keith (Debbie) Montgomery; Kevin Montgomery, Senior. She leaves many nieces & nephews. And grandchildren: Audra (TJ) Montgomery; Lydia Montgomery & Oscar Sandoval; Brandon (Courtney) Robinson; Katie Jo (Keven) Spencer; Amanda (Matthew) Bush; Theodore (Allie) Montgomery; Joshua Montgomery; Jeffrey Jackson; Brian (Amy) Vining; Gage (Jennifer) Lowe; Stephanie (Joey) Motz; & 11 great grandchildren.

The funeral services for Mrs. Montgomery will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at The Bridge at Linden Church of God located at 4309 County Road 772, Webster, Florida 33597 (in the community of Linden) with Bro. Alf Messer and Rev. Tim Tatum officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 12:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow at Linden Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.

Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com. Boone Funeral Home, Inc. of Adel, Georgia is serving the family.

June Montgomery was very close friend to our family and we thought the world of her. She was with us from early childhood until we became parents. She could always make me smile or laugh even in difficult times. She was a great Christian lady. She was by my side as my mother passed away bringing food and comforting us. Our life was greatly enriched and sweetened by her presence and good food. We will miss you but we know you are better off now. Thanks for being you.

My deepest condolences on the loss of Ms. June. I will always remember, as a little girl, running into the hardware store hoping to find something sweet on her desk. She will be dearly missed and was truly appreciated by the Tatum family. We feel blessed to have known her and send our prayers to her family.

Sister June will be greatly missed. She was so kind and gracious to my family. We first met her at the Grand Ridge Church of God where she was so much more than the faithful piano player. It was such an honor to have known her. Her support and love shown towards us instantly melded our hearts together in the Lord.

So sorry to hear about June's passing. Heaven has gained another previous Angel, she up there celebrating, looking forward to seeing her on those streets of gold. Love and prayers for the family.
