Patsy Isbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cappetta’s West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Westmont on Sep. 22, 2025.
Patsy (Black) Isbell decided on September 10, 2025, that it was time to find her front porch rocking chair in Heaven, next to the love of her life Gene, who had left this Earth 36 years ago. Patsy may have spent most of her life in the Chicagoland area, but she was so proud to be from her little slice of heaven, Kenvir, Kentucky. Patsy was preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Gene Isbell, her parents, Robert and Blanche Black and siblings and spouses Freda Black, Peggy (Richard) Nunley, Bill Wesel, Merlene Black, Bobby Black and Linda Longworth.

Patsy was a devoted mother to Theresa Isbell (Bob Sanders) and Pamela (Isbell) Spal (Dennis) who stood strongly by her side when she needed them. Her proudest title, Mom and Mamaw, was given to her by her Daughters and grandchildren Miranda and Randy Spal. She was also a caring sister of Donna Wessel, sister -in-law to Joe Longworth and a loving aunt to many. She leaves behind children, friends, and grandchildren who will forever remember their Mamaw as the best porch sitter, dance partner, and biscuits and gravy maker anyone could ask for.

Patsy loved the little things in life: rocking on the porch with an ice cold adult beverage, bragging about her grandchildren, and sharing her southern wisdom sprinkled with a touch of sass. Her family will remember her as the heart of every gathering, the one who had a way of complicating the simplest of things, and the kind of woman who made everyone feel like kin.

Though she's gone from this world, we take comfort knowing she's rocking on a porch in Heaven, keeping an eye on all of us. And wanting us to all remember her in her southern drawl that took a minute to figure out.

A celebration of her life will be held with family and friends, where stories, laughter, and maybe even a few of her favorite beverages will be shared in her honor. She will be laid to rest down home, up in the mountains that made her the amazing Mom and Mamaw she was.
