Obituary published on Legacy.com by Skelton Funeral Home - Reform on Oct. 4, 2022.
Patricia A. "Patsy" Langner of Gordo, AL passed away on October 3, 2022, surrounded by friends and family. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts and memories of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her style and flair were unrivaled – hats, jewelry, tattoos and anything with fringe were the basis of her wardrobe.
Patsy was born on June 25, 1939, in Gordo, AL. She was the oldest daughter of Jesse Clyde and Hattie Bell (House) Bridges. She never met a stranger and she loved a man in uniform, even in her early years, especially sailors like her husband, Charlie and her son, Patrick who also followed suit in the U.S. Navy for six years. She and her mother would travel across the country on trains, following her daddy and his Naval career. "Patricia, get outta his lap!" her Mama would scold.
She loved staying home, raising a family and loving her husband, Charlie, who preceded her in death in 2000. She loved cooking and baking – her breads, cinnamon rolls, tea cakes and overall love of butter were legendary.
Her fondness for tattoos, she got her first ink at the age of 80, was surpassed only by her love of Maker's Mark bourbon. She relished her role as Ambassador and swore her loyalty after every sip with the phrase, "Mighty fine." She loved playing the piano. She just loved music. She loved Prince, the opera, bluegrass, gospel, country and rock & roll. She loved flowers and gardening almost to a fault. The biannual migration of flower pots, sizes from thimbles to washing machine tubs, to and from her greenhouse required assistance from the local football team, National Guard, a blessing from the Pope and handfuls of various pain relievers.
But it was her starring role as "Pattycake" where she shone brightest. She wasn't a "grandmother", it just didn't sound right. She was a Pattycake, a name that came to her in a dream after the birth of her first granddaughter. After raising nothing but boys she was hesitant on how to handle girls. But she adapted with grace, charm and love. Every year her and her granddaughters' Christmas picture postcards were a smash hit, each year striving to outdo the last. Thousands were mailed out and for every thank you card she received, she'd send one right back. "How can you know Jesus if you can't write a thank you note?"
Patsy is survived by her sons, Patrick Langner and wife, Mary and Cory Langner and wife, Tarrie; two granddaughters, Jesse Riley Langner and Mollie Rhys Langner; sister, Barbara Jordan; brother, Joe Bridges; niece, Joanna Bridges; great-nephew, Jesse Bridges and a host of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Langner; her parents and brother-in-law, Erskine Jordan, DVM.
If days seem a little duller or things appear to be a little more drab, please remember that Patsy had an appointment on her social calendar that couldn't be missed. An appointment of eternal happiness reuniting with loved ones. So put on a hat, wear your fancy clothes and raise a glass to toast the best mother, daughter, wife, sister, teacher, friend and Pattycake there ever was.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Fair officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.
