Patsy Ann McDonald, born on November 18, 1949, in the heart of Granville County, North Carolina, departed this life on May 3, 2025, in Durham County at Hock Family Pavillion, leaving behind a tapestry of memories woven from her unwavering spirit and the countless lives she touched. A cherished daughter of William Ralph McDonald and Florence Hester McDonald, both of whom have predeceased her, Patsy was a force of nature, whose presence was felt so profoundly in the lives of her family and community.

As a devoted wife to Joseph Cyrus Owen, and a fiercely loving mother to Sandra Pendergrass (Ricky) and Lisa Watkins (John), Patsy's strength shone brightly. She found joy in the laughter of her four grandchildren and the warm embrace of her four great-grandchildren, each a testament to her legacy of love and resilience. Her sister, Cathy Autry (Bobby, Sr), remains a vital connection to the shared past that defined their childhood amid the vibrant family gatherings filled with joy and challenges, echoing the essence of their upbringing. Patsy will be greatly missed by extended family and friends too numerous to name.

Patsy’s career as a cashier was not just a job but an extension of her personality—a strong-willed and independent woman who thrived on meeting people. Each interaction was an opportunity for her vibrant spirit to shine, engaging customers with warmth and a genuine smile. Her meticulous organization and punctuality were hallmarks of her character, exemplifying her dedication to bringing order and care to her work and home life.

In her pursuit of education, Patsy obtained her GED, showcasing her determination to learn and grow. A lover of life, she found pleasure in her trips to the casinos, where the games became more than mere pastimes; they were a canvas where her adventurous spirit could dance. Sometimes stubborn, often caring, she was known to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need, her kindness reflecting a remarkable pulse of humanity in an ever-changing world.

Patsy is forever embraced by the memories of her loved ones—the brothers she cherished, William Ralph McDonald, Jr., Joseph Pender McDonald, Jack McDonald, and James McDonald; the sisters who walked alongside her, Hattie Mae Andrews, Lillian Brogden, Dorothy Parham, Jean Evans, and Joyce Blue, all of whom have predeceased her. Though they are no longer physically present, their spirits intertwine with hers, their laughter and love enduring beyond the veil of life.

A visitation to honor Patsy will take place on May 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, North Carolina. Her funeral service will follow on May 7 at 11:00 AM, concluding with her burial at South Granville Memorial Cemetery in Stem, NC, at 12:30 PM.

In this final farewell, we remember Patsy not just through her intricate story but through the countless lives she has enriched. Her strength, her warmth, and her undying love will ripple through time, a beacon for those who carry her memory forward. As we bid adieu to her vibrant spirit, let us celebrate the extraordinary life of Patsy Ann McDonald—a woman of remarkable depth, boundless love, and indomitable will.
