Patsy (“Pat”) Laverne Pruitt, 89, of Hawkins Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024. Pat was born January 11, 1935, to Luther Leonard Carter and Virgie Nancy (Sipes) Carter in Lockney, Texas.

As a young woman, Pat moved to East Texas where she remained until her death. During her life she gave birth to five children but is credited with raising many more. She was known affectionately to family members as “Granny”.

Ms. Pruitt’s dedication to children could also be seen in her choice of work. She retired from Hawkins School District where she spent much of her career as a beloved bus driver and school employee. After retirement, she spent her free time dedicated to the things she loved most, reading, her “doggies” and her home. During her later years she was rarely seen without a book in hand or a dog nearby.

She is survived by sons Jack Thomas and Dale Thomas of Waxahachie; daughter Terri Tucker of Big Sandy; son Randy Pruitt (Shauna) of North Carolina; and son-in-law Steve Lucas of Pritchett; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; sister Louise Guss; brother Dale Carter; former husbands Charles H. Thomas and R.V. Pruitt; daughter Brenda Lucas; and grandson Mark Eitson II.

Final Arrangements will be provided on January 27, 2024, by Croley Funeral Home, 602 East Blackbourn Street, Hawkins, Texas 75765. Visitation is scheduled for 1:00PM followed by the Service at 2:00PM. It will conclude with a Procession to Liberty Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
