Patricia Jean "Patty" Helming, age 72, of Elston, Mo., passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born on August 3, 1952 in Jefferson City, Mo., the only child of Leroy and Bonnie Hampton. She was married on March 28, 1970 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Ronald Lee Helming. She always said she married him because she loved his blonde hair, but she grew to love many of his other characteristics, and they spent 50 years united in marriage.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Patty attended Jefferson City High School. She began working as a waitress in her teen years and later accepted a position at a local shoe factory. She took on her most treasured role as a homemaker when she and Ronald started their family. Patty took pride in being a present mother and an attentive wife.
A woman of strong faith, Patty took comfort in the word of God. She diligently read and studies her bible and sought peace in her daily devotions. She loved to watch sermons and messages online and especially resonated with Pastor Selorm. She kept a detailed journal of her thoughts and feelings, covering every inch of the page. Patty had a sweet demeanor with a sassy streak. She cared deeply for her family and worried about their wellbeing, but she was never shy about expressing her feelings or beliefs on any subject. She had a soft spot for animals, especially cats and dogs of which she had many over the years. She was especially fond of her beloved pups, Killer, lucky, Angel, BB, and Nicki. Her own sweet tooth spilled over to her grandchildren, and they will forever carry memories of trips to Dollar General for a candy bar, her favorite being Milky Way. She also enjoyed gift giving and always greeted the grandkids with a toy, trinket, or doll.
Patty was a lot of personality in a small package, but she never wanted to be a bother to anyone, always striving to put others before herself. Her strength of will, ability to navigate challenges, and her kind yet outspoken nature will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include: her children, Ronnie Helming, Jr., Kathy Alice Helming Cooper, and Randy Leroy Helming, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; grandchildren, Chad Helming (Chelsea), Abney Cooper (Bailey), Haley Helming, Tammy Helming, Natalie Helming, Tristopher Helming and Devin Helming; and great-grandchildren, Adrien Helming, Coraline Helming, Mattie Napier, and Sophia Helming Cayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Helming; parents, Leroy and Bonnie Hampton; and one son, Brian Lee Helming.
A private celebration of life service will be held for Patty's family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Patricia Helming Memorial Fund C/O Freeman Mortuary P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
