Paul Robert Abbott, Sr. was born on November 26, 1932, in Valley Falls, Kansas, and departed this world on January 8, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, surrounded by his cherished family. He leaves behind a bright legacy etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A dedicated family man, Paul was married to his beloved wife, Hazel, for an incredible seventy years, having tied the knot on September 18, 1952. Their bond was a testament to love and companionship, and Hazel remained a constant source of joy in his life until she passed away on December 6, 2022. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including their children: Paul (Gretchen) Abbott, Jr., Chris (David) Wells, Gary (Lynnette) Abbott, and Karen (Terry) Gingrich. Paul was immensely proud of his family, which expanded to include eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, each a jewel in his heart.

Paul’s career began at Century Lumber, where he dedicated over twenty years of service. Driven by a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit, he established Abbott Roofing Inc. in 1980, a venture he operated with pride for many years. Even after retiring in the early 2000s, he exemplified dedication and commitment, continuing to work well into his seventies.

His warmth and quiet demeanor masked an unwavering strength and determination. Paul was a humble man whose accomplishments spoke volumes. He found deep fulfillment in coaching the Topeka Blue Angels girls’ softball team, where he poured his heart into nurturing young talent. His leadership role as President of the Girl's Softball Association at Lake Shawnee throughout the 60 ‘s and 70’s, showcased not only his passion for the sport but also his dedication to community involvement.

Outside of work and family, Paul found solace in nature. He cherished gardening, fishing, and hunting, reveling in the beauty of the outdoors. When he was indoors, he could often be found enjoying Westerns, a testament to his quiet yet adventurous spirit.

Paul was also a proud veteran, having served honorably in the United States Army. His military service instilled in him the values of discipline, respect, and camaraderie, principles that guided him throughout his life.

He is survived by his sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with his brothers Jerry (Charlene), Sonny, and Herb Abbott. Paul will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends, who will remember his quiet strength, warmth, and the unconditional love he bestowed upon them.

Paul is now reunited with those who have passed before him, including his father Frank Abbott, mother Irene (Schoenfeldt) Abbott, brothers Charles and Bill Abbott, sister Francis Kirkham, and beloved granddaughter Melissa Wells, along with great-grandson Corbin Haas. Their spirits welcome him home with open arms.
