Retired US Navy Senior Chief (YNCS) Paul Thomas "Tim" Adams passed away surrounded by his family in
Hendersonville, NC on 28 September. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Carol Ann Adams (Gresham); his parents, John Earl Adams and Della Perthenia Adams; and two brothers, Sonny and Jimmy Adams.
Born in Rock Hill, SC, YNCS Adams graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1958 and joined the US Navy. YNCS Adams' first assignment was as Administrative Clerk on the USS Forrestal. He then transferred to Attack Squadron 216 and deployed on the USS Hancock. He later became an Intelligence Clerk and was assigned to a great many places that included: the Fleet Intelligence Center, Pacific; Fleet Intelligence Center, Europe; Commander Task Unit 157.2.4 in Athens, Greece; US Atlantic Fleet, where he was part of the Operation Homecoming Debriefing Team for American Prisoners of War returning from the Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) during the Vietnam War; the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) where he met his beloved Carol; and the National Security Agency (NSA). YNCS Adams received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1985. He was an avid baseball, football, NHRA, and rodeo fan, passing the joy and enthusiasm of sports to his beloved son and grandsons. YNCS Adams enjoyed graphic arts, drawing, model building, wood working, and horticulture. He had a delightful sense of humor which afforded him a great many friends through the years, who will all miss him dearly.
YNCS Adams is survived by a daughter and her spouse, Dawn and Kelly Greene of Spindale, NC; a son, Tim Adams of
Hendersonville, NC; sisters, Dollie and Charles Bowers of Rock Hill, SC and Bonnie Adams of Bar Harbor, ME; two grandsons and their spouses, Billy and Erica Eaton of Whittier, NC, and Timmy and Jenny Adams of Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Alea, Heather, Ty, Landon, and Zailey; great-great-grandchildren, Charlie and Brooks; and nieces and nephews, Kelli, Kimberly, Kasie, Tad, Marjorie, Kelby, Hannah, Michaela, Allye, Ivy, Chase, Seth, Jennifer, Justin, and Jeremy.
A memorial service will be held on October 25 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in
Hendersonville, NC. YNCS Adams will be interred at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery,
Arlington, VA by a Navy Chaplain with full military honors.
