Paul Gerhardt Broneske of Longmont, Colorado passed away on September 19, 2022 at the age of 95. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend was born on May 2, 1927 in Max, North Dakota to Andrew and Mary (Roth) Broneske.
Paul's family only spoke German, so he was able to learn English once he started school. Paul grew up and went to school in the Max area, working on farms until 1951 when he moved into dam and highway construction. On April 27, 1958, Paul married Doris Eslinger in Garrison, North Dakota. Over the years, they lived in North Dakota, South Dakota (where Richard, Kim, and Sue were born), Montana (Linda), Idaho, Washington, Colorado, California, & Oregon. In 1983, Paul and Doris started working as managers of apartment complexes and senior mobile home parks for another 16 years. In 1998, due to Doris' health issues, Paul and Doris moved to Longmont, Colorado, to be near family. Following Doris' passing on May 8, 1999, Paul was active at the Senior Center and met Eleanor (Ellie) Christopher who remained his friend and companion for 17 years.
Paul's longest employments were at Dworshak Dam (living in Lewiston, Idaho for 14 years), Hanford Nuclear Plant (Richland, Washington), and Candlewood Mobile Home Park in Petaluma, California. In 2000, at the age of 73, Paul worked part time for Safeway as a handyman for another 6 ½ years.
He will be remembered for family road trips and his jokes and stories, always remembering the dates and names of those involved. He enjoyed dancing (waltz's and polka's), cards, bowling, and elk hunting,
Paul is proceeded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, grandson, 5 brothers (Gerhardt, Otto, Elmer, Ed, and Reuben), 3 sisters (Frieda, Emma, and Annie), and 3 half-sisters (Bertha, Sadie, & Olympia). His surviving family includes his son, Richard Broneske (wife DeAnn, of Wasilla, AK), his daughters Kim Spencer (husband Jim, of Boise, ID) and Sue Wedel (husband, Dan of Frederick, CO), son-in-law Bob Blanchett (Linda, Golden, CO), brother Walter (Fargo, ND), 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, among other loving relatives and friends.
A ceremony of life will take place around his birthday on May 2, 2023, with details to be provided later.
