Age 90, of Varysburg, passed away on November 16, 2024 at Wyoming County Community Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1934 in Varysburg, son of the late Clarence and Helen Lewis Riber. After graduating from high school, Paul served in the United States Army and then went on to work for thirty-four years as a corrections officer at Attica Correctional Facility before retiring in 1991. Known as “Curly” Riber to many, he loved music. He played guitar and sang for the country band the Silver Stars alongside his wife Elly. Paul enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, He played baseball and softball until the age of 60. He was also an avid camper and enjoyed many music festivals over the years. Paul mostly loved spending time with his family and playing the piano with the grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Paul is predeceased by a son, Gregory Riber.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Mooney Riber of Varysburg; his son Ken (Kim) Riber of Huron, NY; his sister, Nancy (John) Ripstein of Canandaigua; his grandchildren, Luke Zufall, Alicia Wagner, Ashley Riber; his great grandchildren, Brayden, Logan, Alex, Caleb, Brooklyn; several nieces and nephews.
Paul’s memorial service will be held November, 24, 2024 at 2 PM at the Varysburg Valley Gospel Church, 2442 Rt. 20A, Varysburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Varysburg Rescue Squad, 2446 Rt. 20A, Varysburg, NY, 14167.
