Paul Edward Davis Sr, 77 of Wentworth NH passed away peacefully May 2 2025 with his wife Mary by his side.

Paul was born on July 25 1947 to William "Harley" Davis and Virginia (Elliott) Davis. He grew up in Rumney NH with his brothers Steve and Mark. He graduated from Plymouth high school in 1966 and enlisted in the US Air Force.

He married Dawn (Tatham) in 1967. He was stationed in New Jersey and it was there that they had their first child. Paul proudly changed his name to Sr. when his son Paul "Jr" was born. Two years later they welcomed their daughter Cheryl.

After his honorable discharge in 1970 he moved his family to Wentworth, the town he would call home for the rest of his life.

Deeply devoted to his community, he served on the Wentworth volunteer fire department for 50 plus years. He also gave his time as a little league coach and was happy when some of his team still called him coach years later. He plowed snow for the town as well as his own private accounts. In his retirement years he worked at the transfer station. Paul was a social butterfly and all of these positions served him well.

Paul worked at Allen Rogers lumber mill until he started his own business Davis Gas Company in beautiful Wentworth NH. Anyone who called the house knows that was the outgoing message for years.

He married Mary Ellen (Clark) in 1991.

Paul was a loyal Patriots fan. He loved fishing and camping, especially in Pittsburg NH. Many family vacations were enjoyed at Lake Francis campground with his brothers and their families. He loved to trout fish in the back woods especially Indian stream and "Davis"brook. He loved camping so much that he and Mary created a family campground on their property. He loved nothing more than to have friends and family enjoy his food from the grill, play a game of cribbage with him, and enjoy his legendary bonfires.

Paul was a good neighbor, who always seemed to have time to help those who needed it.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Steve and Mark, his beloved Aunt Peg and her daughter Linda, and his daughter- in- law Penni.

Paul will be greatly missed by his wife Mary, his son "Jr" (Michelle), and daughter Cheryl (Donnie). He will be very much missed by his grandchildren, whom he affectionately referred to by their nicknames Lynda "Freda" (Josh), Derek "Buddy", Ryan "Skippy", and Brandon "Franklin". He also leaves 2 great grandchildren Corbin "Lenny" and Jocelyn "JoJo" and one great great grandson Blade. He will be missed also by his sister -in- law Paula and his Avon lady Dawn as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and the whole community.

A graveside service will be held on May 31 at 2:00 at the Highland Cemetery on Quincy Rd in Rumney. A reception will follow at the Davis family campground for a cook out and one hell of a bonfire. Don't worry, the fire department will be there. Please bring a chair.

When Mary called me about Paul passing away I was on a job, here in Keene, and the rest of the day I was thinking about him and remembered the first time we met. We were on a Government Hud program job back in the late 80's just north of Plymouth. I was doing an addition on a A Frame house while he was doing the heating system, with Brad. We turned on the owners stereo system while working and the music was really good so we cranked it up and blew out the speakers. The owner was good about it. Since for about 10 years we got alone well getting together often at his home and had a few with Mary looking on. Paul was a good man with a good heart. I moved away to Jaffrey NH because of family situation late 90's. Didnt realize his health.
Condolence to Mary, Paul Jr. and Cheryl.

Paul was my oldest cousin. He called me special when my wife, Cheryl passed. That really meant a lot to me. His two brothers (also cousins), Mark and Steve, have also passed.

I had visited Paul and his wife while I was up during a family reunion with my wife. Paul was a wealth of information talking about my father. He offered us burgers and we were so heavy in conversation that I forgot to take him up on that. I did say Upon leaving that I had hoped to see him again soon. When I was 12 he issued me a letter of recommendation which I still have to this day and explained the importance of that letter and he was right. He will be greatly missed.

Senior was a funny guy when you really got to know him. He told it how he saw it and if he liked you, you were fortunate as he would give you the shirt off his back. I always looked forward to dump day Sundays where we would swap stories. Himself and Mary were fixtures of Wentworth and allowed us to enjoy small town life.

He was so proud of Junior and his craftmanship on old houses. We spoke of work that Junior did for us in making new look like it was from 1815. The pride of a father is like nothing else.

He took Steve's passing hard, and we had many conversations about it and heart health. Nothing worse than losing a sibling and worse a brother. He told me he missed the weekly phone call check ins between himself and Steve.

He called my wife Jenny since he knew her since she was 12 years old. He was the only one that ever called her Jenny without a rebuke.

My fondest memories of him manning the WVFD grille on Market Day and his referring to his helpers as knuckleheads. He understood giving back to a small town and gave praise to those that served Wentworth like he did.

Mary, Junior and Cheryl as well as all the Davis clan our sincerest condolences. We will all miss Paul Sr.

This is Beautiful! We moved to Atwell Hill in September of 21'.

At the time we needed a ditch dug for the propane line for our camp. My husband just mentioned it to Paul. The next day Paul showed up with his machine digging the ditch.
That interaction cemented our friendship for the following years.

He was a part of the fabric that make the small town quilt unique.
He will be greatly missed.
