Paul M Dymock was born December 29, 1958, in Oceanside, California to Garry and Patsy Dymock. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah where he made many life-long friends and had countless cherished memories.
As a young man, Paul served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Sweden Goteborg mission. He was privileged to serve under two mission presidents: Paul K. Oscarson and his wife Bonnie and Spencer F. Jenson and his wife Joyce. For two years, he shared the message of Jesus Christ with sincerity and love - a mission that deepened his faith and gave him his sense of purpose that would guide him for the rest of his life.
Upon returning home, Paul pursued his education at Brigham Young University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Communications: Human Resource Development and later his double Master's Degree from the University of Utah in Social Work Administration and Direct Clinical Practice. As an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), his career reflected his passion for helping others, from Home Health and Hospice Care to Substance Abuse Prevention, and ultimately to his dream job in the Alpine School District - helping adolescents navigate mental health struggles and thoughts of suicide. He also quietly offered guidance and healing through his private counseling practice, where many lives were changed because he cared.
But the heart of Paul's life was Shirlene. They met when the two of them worked at Mountain Fuel Supply Company – he as a part-time meter reader while going to school, and she as the home economist. They were immediately drawn to each other, fell in love, and were married in 1982. They made
Orem, Utah their home - filled with faith, fun, laughter, music, and devotion. Together, they raised five wonderful children: Ryan Christopher (Leah), Kellianne (Keith) Albretsen, Heidi Corinne (Zak) Kandare, Amy Alysse (Ethan) Blanchard, and Matthew Paul (Sadie). Paul and Shirlene were blessed with 16 cherished grandchildren, who lovingly call them "Gammy" and "GP" (short for "Grandpa Paul").
Paul loved the simple, beautiful things in life: playing the piano, digging in the garden, attending the Hale Center Theater, and cheering on his children in their athletic and artistic/theatrical endeavors. But more than anything, he loved people. He could talk to anyone, and he made it a point to really listen. His curiosity about others was sincere, and his kindness was unforgettable.
As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Paul served faithfully in numerous callings, including primary chorister, choir accompanist, teacher, ward and stake organist, Sunday School president, bishopric counselor, and ward and stake executive secretary. He served with humility and heart. He lived his life anchored in his testimony of Jesus Christ. He felt deep gratitude and love for the Savior and his Atonement. His quiet counsel to others was simple and powerful: "Always listen to the promptings of the Spirit and act on them quickly."
Paul's life was a life of purpose, compassion, laughter, and fun. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he made people feel: seen, heard, loved, and valued.
